Job Summary

Aligned with institutional and college-level leadership in supporting, developing, and leading advising initiatives for KSU's undergraduate population. Provides direct supervision to the assigned departmental advising team which includes their professional training and development. Collaborates frequently with academic departments and campus partners to support the procedures and processes necessary for students. Supports the success of students in meeting academic and graduation goals.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides comprehensive academic advising services to assigned student population 2. Assists with the identification, organization, and execution of retention and graduation rate-impacting initiatives to support student progression 3. Prepares and updates advisement materials to assist in the progression of students along with the knowledge of advisement staff 4. Creates, implements, and participates in events and initiatives to support the retention, progression, and graduation of students 5. Assists with the assessment of services and programs provided to students within the advising office 6. Supervises and evaluates assigned academic advising staff 7. Ensures high quality performance, professionalism, and customer service standards of advising staff through regular training and development 8. Provides guidance to academic advisors undertaking these initiatives to ensure timely completion 9. Collaborates with leadership, Academic Advising Centers, departments, faculty and campus partners to foster student success and positive working relationships 10. Represents the assigned college on appropriate campus committees 11. Assists with the coordination of unit-level communication plans regarding key milestones, registration deadlines, academic resources, etc. 12. Provides second level oversight of retention, progression, and graduation of students within assigned populations, and offers proactive outreach communications for students who may benefit from timely advising interventions

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field

Required Experience Five (5) years of experience as an academic advisor

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated proficiency in academic advising as evidenced by the peer, supervisor, and student evaluations, as well as student success systems and tools

Preferred Educational Qualifications Advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in related field

Able to work evenings and weekends to support College initiatives, events and /or activities Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one-time meeting assigned deadlines

KNOWLEDGE Participates in ongoing professional development activities that enhance academic advising outcomes

SKILLS Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills Demonstrated proficiency in academic advising as evidenced by the peer, supervisor, and student evaluations, as well as advising systems and tools Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite) Strong attention to detail and follow up skills Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette

Other Information

This is not a supervisory position. This position does not have any financial responsibilities. This position will not be required to drive. This role is considered a position of trust. This position does not require a purchasing card (P-Card). This position may travel 1% - 24% of the time This position does not require security clearance.

Background Check

Standard Enhanced Education

Per the University System of Georgia background check policy, all final candidates will be required to consent to a criminal background investigation. Final candidates may be asked to disclose criminal record history during the initial screening process and prior to a conditional offer of employment.
