Overview
The Market Intelligence Analyst role will maintain and analyze external data, internal data, and other disparate sources on clients, competitors, and broad market trends to support projects and business development efforts for various corporate practices and key stakeholders. The role often involves covering industries and topics that Ropes & Gray's clients are affected by; including macroeconomics, financial markets, and corporate transactions. The candidate will be partially dedicated to supporting competitive intelligence initiatives to monitor peer law firms, track Ropes & Gray's market positioning, and identify growth opportunities in the Legal space. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with legal practice groups and business support departments to gather and analyze financial, statistical and qualitative data into 'stories' which solve business challenges & help the firm grow volume by building larger practices.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Communicate with Practice Group Leaders, Senior Partners and other key stakeholders, to understand and execute against strategic business development objectives and market intelligence needs. Execute recurring and ad-hoc competitive intelligence projects, building upon a suite of deliverables to support Ropes & Gray's strategic objectives. Conduct research, analyze and synthesize client, market, competitor and internal data to identify trends and opportunities for the firm. Strengthen the firm's global market intelligence to support and refine growth strategies. This includes, but is not limited to, the identification and use of key quantitative and qualitative market data and modeling to scan for areas of opportunity/vulnerability. ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES:
Ability to compile, review, analyze and synthesize data to determine logical conclusions or recommendations based on data and information that is varied in context, content and format and present ideas to senior leaders. Understanding of financial markets, including debt, equity, private equity, real estate and M&A. Unwavering client service orientation: produce high-quality work, proactively manage expectations and identify opportunities for improvement in anticipation of future business needs. Flexibility to work proactively and independently with low supervision and a high level of autonomy. A strong sense of personal accountability. Comfortable working collaboratively in a close team environment across teams, across functions, across geographies. Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree required, master's degree a plus. 1+ years of experience; banking, capital markets, financial industry or consulting experience a plus. Strong data analysis skills combined with the ability to quickly identify the 'so what'; ability to pull analysis into a story to affect / change behavior. Deep experience across the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint). Exposure to vendor tools such as Bloomberg, Pitchbook, Preqin, Factset and others. Candidate will be given a data analysis exercise to complete on his/her own time in Excel.

The anticipated pay range for this role is below, which represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.
Boston: $81,000 - $123,550
Working Conditions
This position requires hybrid on-site presence as an essential function of the role. Consistent and predictable on-site presence is required for ongoing business continuity, professional development and effective collaboration with colleagues and management.
