About the Role
The Company is seeking a Vice President of Zoological Health and Chief Veterinarian to provide leadership and oversight for the Zoological Health Program. The successful candidate will be a senior member of the Zoos and Aquarium Division, responsible for the animal health program across multiple sites. This role involves collaborating to ensure the optimal care of the company's animal collection, maintaining a current NY State veterinary license, and managing a diverse staff with multiple veterinary disciplines. The VP will also be tasked with developing and implementing veterinary protocols that meet industry standards, and supporting the Executive Vice President with division initiatives. The VP will be the veterinarian of record for all health-related regulatory matters and will be expected to maintain a leadership role in professional organizations to address animal health concerns. Additionally, the role includes responsibilities such as budget management, staff supervision, and actively participating in clinical cases. The ideal candidate will have experience in zoo and aquarium veterinary medicine, strong leadership and mentoring capabilities, and the ability to represent the company in local, national, and international settings. The successful candidate for the Vice President of Zoological Health and Chief Veterinarian position at the company will be a highly skilled and experienced professional with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree. A background in zoological and wildlife medicine is essential, as is a demonstrated ability to stay abreast of current information and procedures in the field. The role requires a proactive approach to preventive healthcare and quarantine programs, as well as the ability to work with global resources for donor management and recruitment. The VP will also be expected to be an active member of the Emergency Response Team and to engage in research, publications, and professional development activities.
