Staff Accountant

Primary Purpose:
Assisting with various duties within the Accounting Department of TowneBank and/or its affiliated companies. Staff Accountant role could include a variety of accounting and finance related functions within the department based on the experience and interests of the individual candidate and the needs of the accounting department.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform projects and research as assigned.
- Recording journal entries and the preparation of reconciliations.
- Manage and reconcile the Bank's Brinks and Loomis Inventories.
- Maintain appropriate monetary balances at each correspondent bank.
- Serve as Back up to Assistant Treasurer for public deposits and investment activity.
- Serve as Back up for the Federal Reserve Bank account reconciliation.
- Adheres to applicable federal laws, rules, and regulations including those related to Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent work experience.
- Strong analytical abilities.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
- Banking industry experience is strongly preferred.
- Prior work experience, especially in the Banking or Accounting industries, including full-time, part-time, and/or internship experience.
- Current CPA license or candidate actively pursuing a CPA license.
- Finance-related course work, including commercial bank management, interest rates, derivatives, and/or other finance-related classes.
- Information Systems coursework including databases, programming, and system design that would be useful in working with accounting department software.
- Experience with the FIS Insight/IBS core banking system
- Experience with Fiserv's Prologue General Ledger
- Express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word via email and verbally.
- Exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, use your arms and legs, and sit most of the time.
- Have close visual acuity to perform activities such as analyzing data, viewing a computer terminal, reading, and preparing documentation.
- Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
