Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages and oversees Foundation accounting, which includes Investments, Endowment, Scholarships, monthly and year end entries.
- Provides fixed asset accounting including tagging, capitalization and depreciation. Supervises periodic verification and updates records as appropriate.
- Maintains current and firm understanding of accounting principles, in particular (but not limited to) GAAP and GASB relevant to higher education and public universities.
- Ensures all work is adequately documented and compliant with audits.
- Oversees periodic reconciliations of those areas as assigned by the Controller. These areas may include (and may change from time to time): Foundation, receivables, fixed assets, other liabilities, debt, fund balances, revenues and expenses.
- Interacts in a proactive and effective way with other University departments to ensure productive communication and working relationships.
- Assigns and supervises the work of Professional Services Specialists II, III, IV, and program assistant, clerical, part-time and/or student aids, if needed.
- Monitors the work of students and/or staff; identifies problem areas and takes steps necessary to effect improvement.
- Performs special assignments as needed for the Vice President, which include analysis for confidential projects.
- Performs special projects or work as assigned and appropriate to the position.
- Completes confidential research, including but not limited to labor costs and personnel matters. Assists in the compilation of data for external parties including, but not limited to OSHE, Baker Tilly, Moody's, Fitch, and NJEFA.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or business.
- Four years' experience in an accounting environment; experience in an institution of higher education is preferred.
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, financial statement preparation and financial operations, systems and internal controls as well as experience with enterprise accounting systems is required.
- Knowledge of Workday is preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, accuracy and attention to detail are required.
