JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: The Mechanical Engineering Department (ME) is one of the largest academic departments on the UW-Madison campus with approximately 53 faculty, 57 academic and administrative staff, 1500 undergraduate students and 285 graduate students. As a member of the ME administrative team, this individual will work under the general supervisor of the Department Administrator along with the support of the Research Administrators and Accountant developing and documenting controls for accounting systems to ensure accurate recording and reporting to the business unit\'s financial transactions. This position performs complex accounting duties, prepares financial and statistical reports, delivers training to others, develops and/or manages complex budgets including Research Administrators with the oversight and reconciliation of federal and non-federal contracts. May lead and be a resource and/or backup for others in the administrative team. Responsibilities: Performs advanced accounting duties following generally accepted accounting principles and procedures. Prepares and reviews financial reports and assists with budgeting. Ensures the accurate recording and reporting of the business unit\'s financial transactions. 20% Organizes, prepares, and updates financial statements, monthly and year-end journal entries, accounts, ledgers, and reports for various financial needs within an automated financial system to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions 10% Prepares and analyzes financial data, reports and records, identifies discrepancies, investigates, recommends, and implements solutions as needed 10% Develops and maintains automated financial systems, recommending controls to ensure system reliability and data integrity 10% Assists with accounting and reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and reports 10% Provides and prepares budgets and projections based on existing data and established policies and procedures 10% Answers questions and provides accounting related information to...
