The Staff Accountant provides accounting support and financial oversight for bank/stock activity and various balance sheet accounts.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Bank

  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations. Analyze returned items and outdated checks to ensure they are handled on a timely basis. Reconcile unclaimed funds for Ohio annually and maintain PDF copies of cleared checks. Complete/submit/track ACH authorization forms.
  • Serve as liaison and coordinate communications with bank. Arrange banking activity, including line of credit, commercial card, direct debits, and credits. Evaluate and make recommendations on new banking services and monitor fees. Coordinate bank/merchant services bids according to competitive bidding guidelines.
  • Prepare weekly cash flow projections. Make recommendations to raise or invest cash.
Stock
  • Respond to customer inquiries and provide tax receipting.
  • Serve as liaison with stockbroker(s).
  • Process stock donations, including research, coordination of stock sales, reconciliation with sub-ledgers, etc.
  • General Accounting
  • Perform accounting for identified balance sheet accounts, including monthly/quarterly reconciliation, analysis of activity, preparation of journal entries, and preparation/distribution of invoices, as assigned.
Audit
  • Review SSAE 16 reports and prepare an evaluation.
  • Prepare year end/audit workpapers.
  • Respond to auditor inquiries.
Perform corporate projects, such as, but not limited to:
  • Maintain updated accounting procedures.
  • Assist with special projects as requested.

JOB RELATIONSHIPS WITH: Interacts with United Way team members at all levels of the organization, public accounting and bank representatives, stockbrokers, and donors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent preferred.
  • Two years relevant experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit accounting preferred.
  • Proficiency in basic Microsoft Word and intermediate Excel.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Normal office environment with little exposure to dust, noise, temperature, and the like.
  • Occasional local travel to events within the regional area.
  • Extended viewing of computer monitor.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.


SALARY: $56,000 plus competitive benefits package
