Qualifications:
- Holds a master's degree in School Social Work
- Holds a valid Illinois teacher's certificate
- Successful completion of Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training within 90 days of employment
- Previous successful experience working with students
- Excellent human relations and communication skills
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students, and parents from a variety of racial, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Ability to remain calm and non-confrontational with students in crisis
- Ability to diffuse situations calmly and with authority
- Ability to think clearly and take effective action quickly in an emergency
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite
- Willingness to attend professional trainings on a regular basis

Performance Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates social work ethics by focusing on the student, the right to self-determination of the student and family, and maintaining confidentiality.
- Provides counseling services for students in a group and/or an individual basis.
- Identifies student/family and/or staff concerns regarding social interactions in the educational setting and develops plans for immediate and/or future resolutions.
- Provides assistance to students/staff regarding problem-solving strategies, conflict resolution/mediation, social skills and other prevention strategies.
- Provides first-line assistance to students who exhibit behavioral difficulties.
- Works as a liaison with community agencies to bring services, traditional and non-traditional, to students/family/staff.
- Demonstrates knowledge of various counseling techniques and appropriate communication skills.
- Shows awareness and sensitivity to multicultural problems.
- Consults with parents and staff as to the social and emotional development of children
- Completes necessary school and social work records
- Maintains documentation of progress of students and keeps teachers, parents/guardians informed.
- Communicates between school and home those issues related to social work.
- Meets with parents/guardians during scheduled conferences and at other appropriate times.
- Uses standard rules of spelling, punctuation, and grammar in written and verbal communications.
- Completes all paperwork and submits accurate records as required by law, Board policy, and administrative guidelines.
- Collaborates with other building staff to provide appropriate learning opportunities for students.
- Participates in professional growth opportunities (e.g.., attends regional, state, national professional conferences; reads professional publications) related to all areas of services.
- Follows building and district rules and procedures in performing assigned responsibilities.
- Performs all other duties needed for the successful operation of the school district.
