Position Overview: The School Social Worker will provide support and services to students, helping them overcome social, emotional, and academic challenges. This role is crucial in fostering a safe and supportive school environment where every student can thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group counseling to students to address social, emotional, and behavioral issues.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop intervention strategies for students in need.
- Conduct assessments to identify students' needs and develop appropriate action plans.
- Offer crisis intervention and support as needed.
- Facilitate communication between the school, home, and community resources to ensure comprehensive support for students.
- Develop and implement programs to enhance students' social skills, coping mechanisms, and overall well-being.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and progress.
- Participate in IEP (Individualized Education Program) meetings and provide input on student support plans.
- Advocate for students' rights and needs within the educational system.
- Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
- Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the state of Michigan.
- Possession of a 310 letter, authorizing practice in school social work.
- Strong understanding of child and adolescent development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse school community.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Experience working in an educational setting.
- Knowledge of local community resources and services.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus.
