Description

Job Summary: The Dietitian is responsible for assessing patient nutritional status and needs, developing and implementing nutritional care plans, and evaluating and reporting these results appropriately. In conjunction with the Dietary Manager, coordinates and supervises food service procurement, production, and distribution. Provides patient, professional, and nutrition staff education. Assures that the facility meets state and accreditation rules and regulations.

Education Background and Experience

Minimum Education:

• Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics

• Current registration with the American Dietetic Association based on adequacy of continued education credits

• Experience in clinical dietetics, diet therapy, and education

Required Licensure / Certifications:

• Current Washington State Certified Nutritionist License

• Current Washington State/Okanogan County food handler's card

Required Experience:

• A minimum of one year of dietitian experience in a hospital or clinical setting

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with the Cerner electronic health record system

• Bilingual in English/Spanish

Essential Job Functions

1. Conducts nutrition assessments on patients within 72 hours of admission (except weekends) using appropriate nutrition care process guidelines.

2. Provides educational support and educational materials for patients with special diets within 72 hours of admission (except weekends).

3. Provides support for patients with food preferences to help with proper menu selection.

4. Appropriately teaches patients and their families nutrition and modified diet requirements; interviews and counsels patients with special dietetic problems before discharge from the hospital or as referred from outpatient services.

5. Works with Dietary Manager to review and respond to patient feedback regarding Dietary Services.

6. Provides outpatient consultation, assessments, and long-term care plans for patients.

7. Conduct classes and attend periodic meetings to educate nurses and providers on subjects such as nutrition, diet therapy, infant nutrition, and menu planning; offer dietetic training for nursing personnel, medical staff, employees, and the general public in the principles of nutrition and diet therapy.

8. Performs weekly tray checks to ensure quality and dietary restriction(s) compliance.

9. Performs quarterly kitchen inspection with the Dietary Manager to ensure the kitchen complies with all state and federal laws/regulations/recommendations.

10. Observe menu ordering with the concierge once per week to assure patient satisfaction and assist in training on specialized diets and education.

11. Conducts dietary in-services quarterly and as needed for dietary staff.

12. Develop and implement policies and procedures governing therapeutic diets.

13. Participates in appropriate committees.

14. Communicates effectively with all other hospital staff.

15. Ability to complete work within the scheduled time, planning work assignments to meet the needs of the patients and peers.

16. Participation and documentation of continuing education.

17. Appropriate charting as required within electronic medical records.

18. Prepares and maintains records and reports concerning technical and administrative operations such as patient care plans, outpatient instruction, and calorie counts in medical records.

19. Be familiar with the collective bargaining agreement (Union Contract) of the UFCW21 and Mid-Valley Hospital.

20. Performs other relevant duties as assigned.

WAGE AND COMPENSATION

Wage range $35.59 hr. - $53.59 hr. - DOE

Mid-Valley Hospital offers a benefit package. This includes accrued vacation time in the amount of .076923 vacation hours per hour worked. Accrued sick leave at an accrual of .04615 per hour, Life insurance and a profit-sharing plan. We also offer medical, dental and vision insurance plans. Employees can enroll in a 403(b) deferred compensation plan and/or a 457 deferred compensation plan.
