POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for preparing general ledger month-end journal entries in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Senior Accountant should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the purpose of the journal entries they are recording to the general ledger, evaluate the appropriateness of the entry(including the GL accounts used and the financial statement line item classification), and explain the impact to the financial statements.
- Responsible for ensuring appropriate and relevant supporting documentation is attached to the journal entry.
- Responsible for evaluating the source of the information for their journal entries and asking appropriate follow-up questions to ensure documentation is accurate and appropriate. In some cases, appropriate support will include developing estimates of the current month activity based on financial analysis of historical data.
- Expected to develop an understanding of healthcare specific accounting issues relevant to the different functional areas of the hospital.
- Previous healthcare experience is preferred but not required.
- Responsible for analyzing and providing variance explanations(from budget and trend) to the Director of Finance and CFO for month-end review.
- Responsible for completion of monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Responsible for assisting other departments across the hospital and at corporate with information requests as needed.
- Expected to work closely with other department leaders to resolve issues timely and to the satisfaction of all parties.
- Responsible for other projects, as assigned, which may include but are not limited to: research of GL transactions and analysis of GL transactions and hospital stats to understand the impact to the GL, process improvement projects, and all government and financial audits.
- Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Assists in gathering and as requested for the preparation of cost reports, internal and external audits, healthcare surveys, and other financial analysis as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related preferred.
