Summary/Objective:
The
Crane Manager
provides management, operational oversight for all Ship to Shore (STS) Cranes, Rubber Tired Gantry Cranes (RTGs) for SSA Marine Jacksonville Container Terminal. The manager develops the personnel and the technicians to accomplish the necessary tasks of that equipment. The crane manager must become familiar with all facets of the equipment under his supervision. His primary objective is to keep the personnel and equipment under his supervision safe and available for operations to accomplish the business objectives of the company. In the process of meeting the primary objective, it is his responsibility to do so in the safest manner possible and at the most cost effective to the company yet remain within the safety objectives and regulatory requirements of operating the equipment.
Essential Responsibilities:
Enforce strict adherence to safety & regulations and ensure all team members use proper personal protective equipment (PPE). Stress workplace safety and training and participation in safety programs. Responsible for all equipment under his/her supervision. Work with all departments and vendors providing maintenance to reach operational objectives Manage both in-house maintenance personal as well as contracted maintenance providers. Provide input to the company regarding specifications of the operational equipment. Meet regularly with vendors to secure supply and cost objectives. Manage operational costs Manage Cranes & RTG's to ensure they are accomplishing the intended objectives. Monitors and evaluates maintenance, operational, and safety compliance; assesses efficiency and costs across terminals; standardizes processes and procedures to optimize equipment utilization Provide & coordinate training of crane personnel and vendors providing maintenance to improve performance and skills Communicate company policies to crane personnel and vendors providing maintenance. Be familiar with computer control, management, and diagnostic programs that are used on the equipment under your supervision Constantly evaluate new technology as it is applied to Cranes & RTGs Coordinate efficient use of IFS system, and EAM (Enterprise Asst Management), Ensure companywide maintenance initiatives and KPIs are met. Ensure all equipment is inspected regularly and maintained according to manufacturer specifications and company standards. Coordinate with operations and maintenance teams to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime Conduct safety audits and inspections, ensuring that all maintenance activities comply with company and regulatory safety standards. Maintain up-to-date records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used for audits and compliance. Manage and monitor spare parts inventory, ensuring the availability of critical components for repairs. Coordinate with procurement for ordering and replenishing stock as necessary. Assist in budget planning and cost management for maintenance operations. Participate in and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, reduce maintenance costs, and improve workflow efficiency. Analyze equipment performance and failure data to identify recurring issues and recommend preventive measures. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications:
Two (2) year AA degree or equivalent experience working in Operations and management 10 years' experience in a related industry. Fluent in English. Experience managing union labor Strong operational-level and tactical-level skills to allow for the analysis of operations, problem solving, streamlining procedures, ensuring adherence to standards, etc., while also demonstrating a strategic perspective by anticipating future issues and trends. Valid CPR certificate required Must have valid DL and a TWIC Card Thorough knowledge or principles of terminal operations Maritime experience a major plus; transportation-related experience a plus. Have a high level of energy, a positive attitude, and proven leadership skills. Experience with computerized operating systems Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic lifting systems. Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability strongly desired Knowledge of local unions dispatching rules. Requires critical thinking skills, communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. Required to observe all safety and health requirements for container terminal environment. The ability to work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast moving equipment.
