The Analog Garage is ADI's Research and Advanced Development Center in downtown Boston and empowers ADI by pioneering breakthrough technologies. The Platform and Systems Team combines software and hardware engineers to develop novel technologies and solutions within a dynamic, idea-driven startup environment. We are a diverse team that strives for excellence in everything we build. We are eager to learn and share our knowledge. We are driven, agile, and ready to adapt and adjust with a consistent focus on our goals.
We conceptualize and materialize ideas into solutions. We explore, design, and develop platforms and applications that answer our planet's and communities' real needs. We strive to build excellent, user-friendly systems. We engineer responsibly for today, and for the world, our children will inherit.
We seek a System Technologist for our Health-of-Planet initiatives who plays a leading role in making our vision a reality by conceptualizing and executing the development of hardware and software platforms in the presence of significant systemic constraints in energy systems.
Responsibilities
As the primary technologist for Health-of-Planet initiatives, you will be responsible for interfacing and collaborating with teams focused on ADI's cutting-edge work in the energy transition, including electrification, clean molecules, synthetic fuels, and renewables. You will conceptualize and execute the development of hardware and software platforms in the presence of the large systemic constraints that arise in energy systems. Experience or understanding of integrating assets into industrial or grid-scale energy systems will be a plus. Collaborate with business and marketing leaders and internal technical leaders to understand customer needs and input from industry experts to formulate user stories. Support business case development and create a technology/feature roadmap, requirements, and specifications aligned with strategic goals, from proofs-of-concept to MVPs. Be a Venture's "CTO": Using your technology expertise to define system requirements and propose specifications that will be carried out for the delivery of actionable systems, with all application aspects considered, from PCB-level hardware to insights and actions, including circuit design, mechanical design, component interfaces, firmware, algorithm, control, and cloud software. Identify and foster novel and emerging candidate technologies to solve complex problems. Collaborate with other architects on application aspects orthogonal to your specific technical expertise. Ensure that various subsystems align well to form a coherent system, cutting across various functional roles to simplify unnecessary complexity and maintain direction toward program objectives. Identify components and platforms that may be reused in future applications and abstract them accordingly. Act as the product owner for the implementation team and ensure the work is implemented according to the specifications and delivered to plan. Deliver designs and prototypes for critical components of the application. Could serve as the Project Champion for a suitable venture. Mentor Garage staff rotating within the group. Requirements
Background or experience in the energy space preferred - either in electrification (e.g., design of equipment for transmission or distribution grids, low-voltage sensor devices, etc., or grid-tied software) or in renewables (e.g., electrical, mechanical, or software/interconnect design for solar panels, energy markets or others). A wide range of technical knowledge from hardware to cloud software with demonstrated deep expertise in at least one technical discipline. Basic business acumen. Master's degree or higher in disciplines such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar. 10+ years experience in industry.
For positions requiring access to technical data, Analog Devices, Inc. may have to obtain export licensing approval from the U.S. Department of Commerce - Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the U.S. Department of State - Directorate of Defense Trade Controls. As such, applicants for this position - except US Citizens, US Permanent Residents, and protected individuals as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) - may have to go through an export licensing review process.
