Position Announcement

Join the Event Staff Usher team at Utah Valley University and help create a safe, welcoming, and memorable experience for all who visit the UCCU Center and other university venues. As an usher, you'll provide exceptional customer service to guests, donors, artists, and patrons, ensuring their experience is seamless and enjoyable. Responsibilities include greeting guests at the door, managing ticketing, and offering helpful information about program details, facilities, and safety procedures. Summary of Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to include greeting patrons, scanning tickets, distribute programs and other materials, and tend to guests' comfort and assisting them with any questions or problems.
  • Monitor the activity and behaviors of all guests to ensure the safety. Enforce event rules and relevant health and safety regulations. Ensure that the lobby and public areas are neat and organized. Assist patrons in following all emergency protocols and guiding audience members to the exits in an orderly manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

High school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Two Way Radios is preferred.
Experience with events and crowd management is preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge
  • Knowledge and understanding of, sensitivity to, and appreciation for the diverse ethnic, socioeconomic,
  • disability, and gender diversity of guests and staff attending or working with the UCCU Center and Utah Valley University.
  • Knowledge of suspicious activity and behaviors.
  • Knowledge of where to find help with ticketing issues, an unruly guest, a medical emergency etc.
Skills
  • Skills in effectively dealing with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring diplomacy, tact, friendliness, poise and firmness.
  • Fantastic communication and social skills, including the ability to listen and deescalate tense situations.
Abilities
  • Ability to read small print.
  • Ability to climb steps repeatedly.
  • Ability to descend/ascend ramps and inclines/declines.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, busy environment with environmental conditions such as noise, dark/dim/absence of lighting etc.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, reach and kneel without restriction.
  • Ability to stay calm in an emergency or confrontational situation.
  • Ability to present a professional, polished appearance.
