SUMMARY: The Sr. Buyer position was established to support the Director of Procurement proactively and effectively in all purchasing initiatives to improve the revenue of Baker Electric. The Sr. Buyer plays a lead role on the procurement team with their strong negotiation, analytical skills, and ability to lead change and mentor others. This is an exempt position and individual contributor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Procurement and Purchasing

  • Perform purchasing activities for all procurement-related matters.
  • Purchase materials and construction supplies within budget guidelines and negotiate pricing levels, services, and terms.
  • Negotiate with external vendors to secure the best terms for Baker.
  • Review and negotiate T&C's with vendors to protect Baker's interests.
  • Negotiate material quotes using estimates, collaborating with the Director of Procurement to secure competitive bids timely.
  • Devise and use strategic sourcing strategies.
  • Identify profitable suppliers and build long-lasting business and organizational partnerships.
  • Challenge all costs to improve company revenue and ensure Baker's best interests.
  • Proactively follow up on material estimates and necessary approvals from the Director of Procurement.
  • Control spending and build a culture of long-term savings on procurement costs.
  • Advanced negotiating capabilities to secure favorable terms and agreements.
  • Strong risk management skills to anticipate and mitigate procurement risks.
  • Highly analytical approach to evaluating data and trends for decision-making.
Analysis and Risk Management
  • Employ multiple problem-solving strategies to improve all procurement-related activities.
  • Anticipate unfavorable events through data analysis and prepare control strategies.
  • Lead risk management opportunities for supply contracts and agreements.
  • Foresee alterations in the comparative negotiating ability of suppliers and clients.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Collaborate with key persons to ensure clarity of specifications and expectations for procurement activities.
  • Provide electrical material, products, and equipment knowledge and guidance throughout the organization to maximize supply chain and field efficiencies.
  • Fully embody and drive Baker Values and Strategic Plans.
  • High emotional intelligence to effectively manage relationships with vendors and team members.
  • Strong financial intelligence to ensure procurement aligns with budget and company financial goals.
  • Results-focused attitude with a commitment to achieving objectives.
  • Demonstrated organizational awareness to navigate and act in the company's best interest.
  • Ability to influence key stakeholders and collaborate effectively across the organization.
Team Development and Mentorship
  • Train and mentor other Buyers on the team.
  • Assist with onboarding employees on the procurement process and associated software platforms.
  • Assist with interviews for future Buyers as requested by the Director of Procurement.
  • Assume job duties and responsibilities of the Buyer II.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Procurement.
Experience and Education Requirements
  • 8+ years of experience as a Buyer in electrical contracting/distribution.
  • Experience buying commodities for large complex construction projects / SIZE materials.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, negotiation, or related degree is a plus.
  • Successful graduation from an accredited electrical apprenticeship program or long-term experience in the electrical industry in various capacities is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Applications and Accounting or Purchasing software.
  • Valid CA Driver's License required.

PAY TRANSPARENCY:
The starting salary for this opportunity range is listed. Other rewards may include annual bonus eligibility based on company and individual performance, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards.
