Job Title: Operations Assistant - Stranding

Job Locations: City of Virginia Beach, Virginia Aquarium - Aquarium Foundation

717 General Booth Blvd Virginia Beach, VA 23451

Schedule: 3 days (30 hours) per week

7:00am-5:30pm

Pay Rate: $15.00/hr.

Job Duties:

• Live animal care including admit, feeding, medication administration, wound care, cleaning, equipment maintenance, etc.

• Assist with training and oversight of volunteers and interns.

• Coordinating and/or participating in field response of live and dead marine mammals and sea turtles, including pre-response preparation and post-response wrap up/restocking/cleaning/ record-keeping.

• Performing outreach/releases as needed

• Various roles in necropsy including assisting with the exam, note-taking, photos, sampling, filling out datasheets, cleaning, and disposal.

• Additional necropsy/response tasks such as equipment maintenance, inventories, etc.

• Cover shifts on the after-hours hotline, as well as answering the hotline during the day, filling out stranding and sightings paperwork, and entering data electronically.

Requirements:

• Upon hire, you must complete the City of Virginia Beach's Defensive Driving Course and have a valid drivers' license.
