Job Description

Con Edison is hiring a grant program officer to develop and implement Con Edison's environmental and climate justice grantmaking strategy and portfolio. This new role will require expertise in climate change adaptation, environmental justice and stewardship and other key areas of community capacity development to address the impacts of climate change in New York City and Westchester County. The ideal candidate will have at least six years in social investing and philanthropy with at least three years of experience in environmental grantmaking. The incumbent will identify and build impactful partnerships with local nonprofit organizations implementing innovative solutions to climate change and supporting the advocacy for environmental justice in the most vulnerable communities of Con Edison's service area. The program officer will drive resources to partner organizations in ways that reflect the needs of communities and organizations on the frontlines of climate change and environmental justice. The ideal candidate is passionate about climate justice and the nonprofit community in New York City and Westchester, grounded in work, and able to purposely collaborate with stakeholders to advocate for climate actions and justice and support disadvantaged communities. The candidate will be eager to identify new opportunities, strategies, and approaches to philanthropy within and outside of traditional structures and possess flexibility to work in an environment where experimentation is encouraged.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

Identify and fund organizations that support the capacity of community-based organizations working on climate change and environmental justice in ways that are consistent with Con Edisons Clean Energy Commitment and philanthropic priority areas. Design a grant portfolio and manage the grant-making process to build partnerships with diverse organizations tackling climate justice across Con Edisons service territory. Conduct due diligence, including financial analysis of nonprofit groups, as well as in-person site visits in portfolio selection and relationship management. Establish methods for measuring and evaluating the impact and outcomes of partnerships, that fit with Con Edisons objectives. Develop requests for proposals for special initiatives. Review and interpret program data and tell a story about what the data means for Con Edisons impact on our communities. Manage relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders working in the energy and environment space and represent the company at events and on committees as appropriate. Work across portfolios to help advance the overall effectiveness of the entire grantmaking program and processes, develop overarching grantmaking documents, processes, and strategies. Work in-office at Con Edisons Manhattan Headquarters a minimum of 3 days per week.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years work experience in philanthropy and grants management, with a demonstrated passion for climate justice, and nonprofits working in the environment and clean energy space. Preferred Education/Experience

Master's Degree public administration/policy, or related field preferred. Relevant Work Experience

Working knowledge of standards, practices and public reporting of environmental impact for corporations Required Demonstrates understanding of the impacts of climate change and environmental justice as they relate to the social, economic and quality life in the communities Con Edison serves. Required Ability to identify programmatic crossover within Con Edisons portfolio areas and operational priorities. Required Experience working with nonprofit or community-based organizations, ideally in New York City and experience conducting due diligence and evaluating nonprofit capacity. Required Experience building and managing relationships with external partner organizations. Required Experience with data analysis and program evaluation. Required Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities and exceptional research, writing, and presentation skills. Required Strong project, time management, and organization skills, as well as an ability to meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Required Strong interpersonal skills, judgment, and humility. Required Fluent in Microsoft Office suite Required Experience with Benevity or other grantmaking databases. Preferred Licenses And Certfications

Driver's License Required Additional Physical Demands

Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers. Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed. Must be able to work flexible work hours.
