Geological Technician - Job Description
Scout Energy is a private energy investment firm that acquires, operates and improves upstream conventional oil and gas properties for institutional investors. Scout's business is both the management of private energy funds and the operation of the oil and gas assets it owns. The current employee base is approximately 1200 with 200 employees in the Dallas (HQ) office.
Scout is seeking a Geological Technician to work hand in hand with the Acquisitions and Exploitation teams to support existing operations and new business deals. This position will report to the Reserves A&D Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities

Scout is seeking a Geological Technician to work hand in hand with the Acquisitions and Exploitation teams to support existing operations and new business deals. This position will report to the Reserves A&D Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide geological support through the creation and maintenance of Petra & seismic databases (update production/injection data from internal and public sources, update well status/completion details, create maps and X-sections, upload raster and digital logs, scanning logs, etc.)
- Set up or transfer all data from new acquisition (Petra projects, physical and digital well files from newly acquired properties)
- Maintain plotters & Assist GIS department to create and update maps in ArcGIS
- Collaborate with IT department to identify data, software, & IT infrastructure needs
- Utilize Spotfire & Excel for data analysis purposes
- Create and update well utility spreadsheets, project tracking spreadsheets, etc.
- Manage digital file organization on company databases and Petra server
- Track well & production subscriptions & maintain relationships with vendors
- Maintain & QC large datasets, potentially requiring computer programming knowledge
- Assist in training Scout employees to use Petra & production data platforms
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with all levels of the organization
- Understanding of basic Petroleum Geology principles & applications
- Strong project management skills with ability to manage time-sensitive projects with a positive and determined attitude
- Exposure to Coding languages (Python/VBA/etc.)
- Proficient user of MS Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience using IHS Petra & Enerdeq, Seisware, ArcGis, Petrel/Techlog, PHDWin, Enervus, TGS Longbow and Spotfire programs or the desire to become proficient using these programs
- Willingness to take ownership of new tasks and solve them with precision and thoughtfulness
- Team player with intellectual curiosity, a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, an innovative bent, and persistent attention to detail
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Engineering or Business preferred
- 3 to 8 years' experience in a Geo Tech or Geologist position
