SUMMARY
Under direct supervision this position operates heavy construction equipment in skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and construction of paved and unpaved streets, alleys, or other City facilities. Generally may oversee certain maintenance or construction work at various times. May be required on occasion to perform manual unskilled work.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to eighth (8th) grade and at least five (5) years experience in the operation of medium and heavy construction equipment, three (3) of which are on a motor-grader. Possess a valid Texas Class "A" CDL, Commercial Driver's License, with Tanker "N" endorsement within 30 days of hire. is required. High school education preferred.
Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of six years of experience in the operation of medium and heavy equipment and trucks, three of which on a motorgrader.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operates a six-wheel motorgrader in a wide variety of work.
- Cuts, fills and blades dirt roadways, alleys, or other facilities.
- Excavates alleys and streets to pre-determined grade.
- Performs specific dirt removal work tasks.
- Excavates asphalt for maintenance and replacement.
- Operates 2 ½ ton to 10 cu.yd. (46,000 GVW) dump trucks or front-end loader as required.
- Blades snow from streets.
- Replaces cutting edges on equipment.
- Checks oil, lubricant, hydraulic and water levels of equipment.
- Performs manual work when necessary to assist in the performance of various tasks.
- Performs minor maintenance and repairs to equipment, making periodic checks on all vital working areas.
- Serves as leadman over construction or maintenance projects.
- Properly safeguards and barricades each work site to protect fellow employees and general public.
- Operates equipment in other comparable pay categories or be willing to train if needed.
- Completes daily job reports.
- This position is subject to 24 hour emergency call out and may be required to carry pager or cellular phone on a rotational shift arrangement.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of street construction methods and materials.
- Knowledgeable of work hazards and precautions to take.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, both power and manual.
- Must have working knowledge of heavy equipment such as motorgrader and be familiar with medium-sized trucks (10 cu.yd.) and front-end loaders up to 2 ½ cu.yd. capacity.
- Knowledge of basic survey and gradation procedures.
- Ability to read cut sheets and work grade.
- Knowledgeable in street construction methods and materials
- Understands hazards involved in construction work and appropriate precautions
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and citizens
- Ability to operate computers for data entry and word processing.
- Ability to operate small office equipment, including I-Pads and copy machines.
