SUMMARY
Under general supervision, this position performs skilled operations of a motor-grader in cutting to, or obtaining, finish grade in paved streets or alleys. Requires working knowledge of heavy highway construction or earth-moving equipment and trucks. Regularly serves as lead man or supervisor over various maintenance projects involving other operators and equipment. May be required on occasion to perform manual unskilled work.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of tenth (10th) grade and at least ten (10) years responsible experience in the operation of heavy highway construction and earth-moving equipment, three (3) years of which are on a motor-grader. Some college training preferred. Completion of a sixteen hour training class in safety barricading and procedures within probationary year. Must possess a Class "A" CDL (with "N" Tanker endorsement).

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operation of a motor-grader in several different functions, including highly individualized and skilled finish grading
- Cuts and levels alleys/streets to pre-determined sub-grade, adding base material and stabilizing in preparation for finish hot-mix surface.
- Cuts or excavates failed asphalt from streets or alleys.
- Blades, shapes, and crowns streets to finish specifications.
- Supervises crew in the stabilizing function of street repair.
- Makes periodic checks of vital working areas on equipment, performing needed adjustments and minor repairs.
- Blades dirt alleys and streets (unfinished).
- Blades snow from streets during inclement weather.
- May be required to do manual work when necessary to assist in the completion of various projects.
- May occasionally supervise other crews, within same unit, in absence of supervisor.
- Responsible for coning and barricading to provide a safe work site.
- May operate 2 ½ ton to 10 cu. yd. (46,000 GYW) dump trucks or other equipment during emergencies or as necessary.
- Will be required to carry after-hours cell phone on rotational shift arrangement.
- Proper completion of daily job reports.
- May operate equipment in other comparable pay categories or be willing to train if necessary.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.

- Ability to read and work grade, knowledgeable in all facets of street construction and maintenance-type work.
- Must have working knowledge of motor-grader, front-end loader, and 10 cu. yd. dump truck
- Familiar with all hand tools, both manual and power driven
- Knowledgeable with survey and elevation procedures and instruments.
- Ability to work long, extended hours under stressful situations
- Some medium lifting (30-50 lbs.) during cleaning or maintaining of equipment, but could involve heavier lifting (50-110 lbs.) when performing manual tasks.
- Ability to work in close quarters in and around all utilities (gas, water, electric) and to integrate well with other employees.
- This position is subject to 24-hour emergency call out and will be required to carry an after-hours cell phone on a rotational basis.
