Job Summary:

The Staff Accountant functions as a supporting team member of the Finance and Administration Department of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Salt Lake. Responsibilities include, and are not limited to, accounts receivable, payroll, annual/monthly budget planning and account reconciliations. The Accountant position is a Part-time (20 to 25 hours per week) and is located within the administrative offices in Murray, Utah.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

  1. Budgeting and Contracts:
  • Assist with research, development and presentation of annual budget projections
  • Create monthly Actuals and review findings with Controller
  • Accurately complete quarterly budget and present findings to the Controller
  • Record accurate journal entries via computer software for Controller approval
  • Accurately enter allocated grant funding on a per employee level into the payroll system
  • Record accurate accounts receivable invoices and managing AR aging
  • Manage and track federal grant allocation, including a great attention to tracking details
  • Attend monthly finance committee meetings as needed

  1. Payroll Tasks:
  • Accurate and timely semi-monthly payroll processing for eight total locations
  • Edit, review and gather time records from electronic time keeping system
  • Review all payroll deductions for accuracy
  • Record accurate journal entries by computer software on a daily and monthly basis
  • Monitor PTO accruals, utilization and associated reports for payroll processing
  • Promptly resolve payroll errors by accessing appropriate internal and external resources
  • Process insurance allocation for billing purposes
  • Donation tracking through payroll system
  • Maintain high degree of confidentiality

  1. Month-End Closing:
  • Reconcile monthly bank statement account and present to Controller
  • Reconcile general ledger at close of each month and present to Controller
  • Support Controller in federal grant billing
  • Data entry and report gathering via multiple databases
  • Review schedules for accuracy

  1. Other Ancillary Tasks:
  • Recommend solutions and problem solve to enhance the department's evolving processes
  • Serve as back-up to the AP Associate and cross-train as required
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge:

  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of three to five years of accounting experience required, preferred experience in payroll processing, month-end closing and budgeting
  • Experience in not-for-profit preferred
  • Experience in management of federal grants preferred
  • Expert computer, accounting and bookkeeping skills
  • Proficiency in accounting software - FundEZ preferred
  • Interpret and convey a thorough understanding of utilized accounting and payroll systems
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills
  • Expert financial reasoning and application
  • Exceptional organization a skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Self-motivated employee who enjoys working with teams as much as on their own

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check
  • Must be able to pass Drug Screening
  • Be adaptable and flexible to change
