Position Overview:

The Portfolio
Manager III is responsible for assisting assigned Commercial, Business, Private
Banking, and Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Relationship Managers in the
management of credit relationships. This role oversees the daily management,
underwriting, and quality control of credit approvals, closings, and
post-closing activities for existing and prospective loan relationships. The
Portfolio Manager III serves as the primary liaison between Relationship
Managers and Credit Administration, ensuring the effective delivery of credit
products. Additionally, the role supervises assigned credit analysts to achieve
optimal performance.

Essential Functions:

  • Directs the underwriting of new and existing credit exposures, focusing on large loan commitments in the CRE, Commercial, Private, and Business Banking sectors.
  • Independently manages credit renewals and new loan requests, ensuring timely and efficient processing with minimal involvement from the Relationship Manager.
  • Coordinates credit processing for less complex renewals and prospective approvals with the Credit Department and Consumer Underwriting Department to maintain efficient workflow.
  • Recommends appropriate credit structures and provides approvals or declines for loan requests on behalf of Relationship Managers. Approves ACH/RDC exposure limits and wire transfers within individual authority limits.
  • Participates in customer calls with Relationship Managers to provide credit insights and support where appropriate.
  • Oversees portfolio management for assigned Relationship Managers, including the reduction of past due loans, ensuring timely renewals, minimizing reporting exceptions, monitoring financial covenants, and managing collateral exceptions.
  • Supervises and mentors assigned credit analysts, including performance evaluations, coaching, and development to enhance team productivity.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert for credit administration, providing training, mentoring, and guidance to credit analysts to improve their work quality and understanding of credit processes.
  • Collaborates closely with Relationship Managers, focusing on internal processes that allow bankers to concentrate on external client interactions, enhancing overall team effectiveness.
  • Identifies and drives continuous improvement opportunities within the credit product, including credit software enhancements, template optimization, and development of regular reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Monitors CRM reports and activities for assigned Relationship Managers, ensuring alignment with team goals, communication, and coordination.
  • Performs other duties as required to support the needs of the department and organization.
  • This
    position may require travel within the Bank's geographic area

Experience & Education:

  • A minimum of 4+ years of experience in roles such as credit analyst, commercial loan underwriter, assistant relationship manager, or loan review.
  • Demonstrated expertise in credit analysis and a strong understanding of commercial lending products.
  • Strong organizational skills to effectively manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field is required, with a minimum of 12 credit hours in accounting.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team in credit underwriting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and make independent decisions under pressure.
  • Strong leadership skills to supervise, mentor, and guide credit analysts.
  • Proficiency in credit structuring, loan approval, and decision-making processes.
  • Experience in using financial spreading software and other bank core systems for credit analysis and underwriting.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and contribute to the continuous enhancement of credit products and procedures.

  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull weights or otherwise move objects weighing as much as 10 lbs. on a regular basis and/or for extended periods of time during the workday.
