REFUGEE MATCHING GRANT CASE MANAGER - GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN

The Case Manager we seek will provide Matching Grant (MG) services to qualifying refugee clients in accordance with contract, organization and accreditation standards. This role coordinates refugee job readiness, refugee job placement and career advancement and tailored job training tracks to promote client self-sufficiency. _________________________________________________________________________________ Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain current knowledge of, and provide employment and support services to qualifying refugee clients in accordance with contract, organization and accreditation standards.

Provide initial orientation and develop employment plan for new clients. Develop, monitor and update Individual Employment Plan (IEP) for each employable adult that identifies strengths, skills, and barriers, and steps to remove barriers. Make appropriate referrals for services to remove employment barriers.

Assist with applications for Social Security card, medical benefits and other applicable registrations within the required time periods.

Document all visits, case activity and complete reports within required timeframe securing all required signatures.

Maintain ongoing contact and communication with employers; document activity related to the suitability of clients, attendance, performance and evaluation; assist in providing job coaching as needed; develop and implement ongoing recruitment strategies for new clients.

Conduct job market analysis, facilitate presentations within the community, review and maintain data base of available employers and positions to be matched with refugees.

Maintain relevant reports and statistics related to client activities and program services.

Ensure that refugees have transportation to job interviews and trainings.

As needed, assist MG clients to transition to Temporary Assistance for Needy Families through the Department of Health and Human Services and other self-sufficiency community resources.

Collaborate with representatives and attend meetings of local organizations, committees, and faith institutions related to employment and training items.

Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification

Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or community services preferred, or equivalent experience working with refugees or other vulnerable populations.

Experience

Minimum one year experience in refugee related casework or community services preferred.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural context. Ability and willingness to work with refugees and other New Americans.

Ability to speak, read and write fluent English. Fluent in the native language of refugee/New American clients preferred with the ability to translate in both written and verbal forms.

Ability to demonstrate compassion and patience towards persons served. Basic understanding of refugee services.

Ability to work constructively with staff and clients. Ability and willingness to work as part of a team in achieving common goals. Basic knowledge of employment recruiting, interviewing, placement techniques and procedures.

Strong public speaking skills. Ability to relate creatively to representatives of various companies, community organizations and governmental agencies.

Ability to identify needs, interests, aptitudes, skills and problems, and refer clients to appropriate support services, agencies and programs.

Basic knowledge of and ability to learn local employer community within specific geographic area.

Knowledge of or ability to learn to utilize various computer programs including Excel spreadsheet and graphic programs.

Automobile travel required.

Valid unrestricted driver's license with good driving record and reliable personal transportation suitable for safely transporting clients. Valid proof of automobile insurance.
