HDR is hiring a Solid Waste Section Manager for the NY/NJ Area. HDR is consistently ranked by ENR as one of the top Waste Management firms in America. This senior level position will be responsible for developing and leading the operations of the Solid Waste Section including staff development, financial performance (profitability, receivables), team morale, quality control, client and project management, and business development.
In the role of Solid Waste Section Manager, we'll count on you to:
- Take responsibility for operations of production section including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support.
- Function as Project Manager and take responsibility for production on projects in addition to management responsibilities.
- Be administratively responsible for the section staff as well as provide technical leadership on projects.
- Collaborate and coordinate resource and project efforts with other business groups.
- Take administrative responsibility for section staff and technical service functions, and lead and coordinate services with other sections.
- Manage the financial performance of the Solid Waste Section, including profitability, revenue/direct labor and receivables.
- Will be involved in marketing planning proposals and interviews while directly involved with marketing private and public sector clients.
- Ensure that all work is planned, organized, controlled and evaluated through proactive project management system.
- Implement, monitor and support company policy.
- Select, train, develop, and manage technical personnel.
- Manage and develop multidiscipline teams.
- Work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff in local and national marketing and production efforts.
- Work with regional marketing and operations leads to develop strategic plans for sector growth and diversification.
- Engage with industry trade associations to promote brand awareness.
- Coordinate with other Section Leads in other geographies to promote resource sharing and leveling.
- Travel to other NY/NJ offices and clients will be necessary, and flexible time in the office will be considered.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or related field.
- PE License.
- A minimum of 10 years' of experience in Solid Waste facilities, planning or program management which must include project management.
- Waste-to-Energy (WTE) experience a plus.
- Prior staff management and development experience.
- Experience working on New York City Department of Sanitation facilities is a plus.
- Zero waste certification or experience preferred.
- Preference given to local candidates.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 10 years experience.
- Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role.
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Good leadership and organizational skills.

The expected compensation range for this position is $91,000 - $202,500, depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
