We are looking for a caring, fun, and experienced ASL teacher to help support our elementary students!

Location: 4750 Lehrer Dr, San Diego (Hawthorne Elementary)

Class Focus:

• The basics of American Sign Language
• Alphabets & Numbers
• American Deaf culture & history
• ASL communication skills - receptive (listening) and expressive (speaking)
• Practice using vocabulary in conversation

Our American Sign Language class teaches participants the basics of ASL and more. Participants will learn the alphabets, numbers, and communication skills - receptive (listening) and expressive (speaking), with vocabulary and grammar. Daily practice using vocabulary in conversation will be implemented, while introducing the American Deaf culture and history to our participants.

Compensation:

The hourly rate is set at $28.00 an hour. An extra 30 minutes of pay ($14.00) will be provided to cover the time spent driving and arriving at classrooms 10 minutes before the starting time of class. Instructors will be paid $42.00 for the class (not per hour).

Schedule:

• Days: Tuesday and Thursday
• Start Date/ End Dates: 1/7/2025 - 2/26/2025
• Hours: 3:15 PM - 4:15 PM

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Expected hours: 3 per week

Requirements:

• Experience:
• Teaching: 1 year (Required)
• ASL: 3 years (Required)
