Summary
The Assistant Restaurant Manager is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the restaurant and bar, staffing and training, high service level, excellent guest response, and upkeep of the operation. This is an hourly position.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Assists in operating the restaurant on a daily basis.
  2. Supervises staff, including side work, scheduling, and practical training.
  3. Responsible for upkeep of physical facilities including cleanliness, maintenance, and organization on a daily basis and long term.
  4. Maintains records of employee needs and responsibilities including time off requests, schedules, tip sheets, and Personal Action Forms (PAFs).
  5. Contributes input in monthly staff meetings.
  6. Attends departmental and Food and Beverage meetings.
  7. Enforces restaurant standards, procedures, and policies.
  8. Communicates with Executive Chef concerning quality, presentation, timing, and guest comments.
  9. Communicates with the staff regularly. Seeks out staff’s opinion for improving operations by holding a monthly staff meeting.
  10. Conducts daily pre-meal meeting and tasting in congruence with Chef and Restaurant Manager, ensuring staff’s knowledge of food, menus, beverage, wine, and service.
  11. Maintains high level of guest satisfaction, making immediate corrective action when guests' needs are not met.
  12. Maintains professional appearance and conduct at all times. Ensures staff’s appearance and conduct are impeccable.
  13. Suggests improvements for the effectiveness of the P.O.S. system.
  14. Maintains daily computer log for breakfast shift. Ensures previous day’s log is distributed.
  15. Reviews staffing regularly. Controls costs during slow periods. Schedules staff.
  16. Trains staff regularly. Develops new training methods.
  17. Assists the Restaurant Manager to develop and discipline staff.
  18. Supervises the care of equipment, maintaining par levels, organizing stock, minimizing waste, breakage, and misuse.
  19. Reports to work in a neatly groomed and acceptable manner as outlined in the employee handbook and departmental rules.
  20. Demonstrates working knowledge of safety and fire procedures.
  21. Completes tasks and projects delegated by your Supervisor; assists other departments as business volumes and staff levels demand.
  22. Assists in emergency and security procedures as directed by management and the established emergency plan.

Qualifications:

  1. College preferred or hotel/restaurant training.
  2. One year management experience preferred.
  3. Three years Food & Beverage experience preferred.
  4. Minimum of 4 years combination education/experience.
  5. Professional appearance.
  6. Extensive restaurant service knowledge.
  7. Extensive wine knowledge.
  8. Knowledge of food and cooking methods.
  9. Ability to work well with people.
  10. Strong organization and supervisory skills.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  1. Ability to be on your feet, kneel, and bend for extended periods of time.
  2. Regularly works in adverse conditions and requires the use of protective apparel/equipment to prevent exposure to the elements as well as an office environment and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces.
  3. Must be able to lift, push, or pull occasionally up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance.
