We are seeking a Manager, Legal Recruiting to join the Washington, D.C. or Nashville office. This position will be responsible for managing all aspects of law student and lateral associate recruitment and development for the Harrisburg, Nashville, Washington D.C. and Wilmington offices. Primary responsibilities include oversight of legal recruiting efforts, summer associate programs, lawyer onboarding and orientation, student outreach, and law school relationships. Additional responsibilities include working with legal search firms, facilitating lateral associate placement agreements and communicating with and marketing the firm to lateral candidates.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Law Student Recruitment & Summer Associate Program
Management of:
• Law student applications and appropriate correspondence
• Applicant tracking and data management
• Office’s summer associate programs, including oversight of event planning, orientation and onboarding, work assignment process, and evaluations
• On-campus and job fair interview programs, including pre-OCI law student communications, interviewing lawyer communication and training, facilitation of interview programs, planning and management of pre-OCI events or receptions, oversight of callback interview process, working closely with Hiring Committee to determine and deliver offers
• 1L outreach events to promote and educate students about the firm
• 1L interviews when applicable, including interviews for the firm’s 1L diversity Power of Partnership Program
• Assist office’s management with hiring decisions
• Coordinate interview evaluation process/procedures
• Serve as the office contact with all outside organizations involved in the summer associate recruitment process, including the National Association for Law Placement (NALP), local city group(s), and law schools
• Facilitate the student offer process while adhering to the required pre-employment checks (conflicts, background) and education verification
• Monitor local markets including compensation, benefits, start dates and summer program lengths - Lateral Associate Recruiting
• Work with Office Managing Partner (OMP) and practice leadership to strategically identify lateral hiring needs
• Administer Lateral Hiring Protocol including entering, maintaining and updating data in Metastorm
• Screen and process resumes received from candidates and search firms and produce appropriate correspondence
• Oversee the applicant data tracking process and maintain accurate applicant data
• Facilitate decision-making process and conduct follow-up with candidates or search firms
• Facilitate the lateral associate offer process while adhering to the required pre-employment checks (conflicts, background) and education verification
• Maintain regular contact with search firms to stay informed about market trends
• Coordinate advertising for open lateral associate positions, including drafting and posting job descriptions on the firm website
• Regularly communicate status updates on open positions to OMPs/Directors of Administration/other partners involved with active lateral searches
• Manage orientation, onboarding and integration of all lateral associate new hires - Other Responsibilities
• Manage communication with entry-level associates, including former summer associates and 3L hires, prior to their arrival
• Prepare and execute orientation and onboarding for new entry-level associates
• Meet regularly with Office Managing Partners, Director of Administration, Human Resources Business Partner
• Assist with local interview training as needed
• Prepare and monitor annual local office recruitment budgets
• Collaborate with members of Legal Recruiting team on firmwide initiatives and projects as needed
• Coordinate and participate in all local office hiring committee meetings
• Develop relationships with lawyers in the office
• Provide strategic advice on hiring to office when necessary
• Perform other tasks, as assigned.
Education and Experience:
• 4-year, accredited college degree (required)
• A minimum of 5 years of recruiting experience (required) preferably in a law firm or law school environment
Skills:
• Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, good judgment, a professional and friendly demeanor, confidentiality, and strong professional and ethical standards.
• Must be highly motivated, creative, flexible, results-oriented and possess the ability to work independently under pressure with demanding deadlines.
• Must work well with all levels of firm personnel and must be able to establish effective working relationships throughout the firm.
• Must possess strong organizational, administrative and word processing skills.
• Must have proven working knowledge of MS Office, Excel and Outlook.
• Must be proficient with applicant data tracking software, preferably PeopleSoft Recruit Workforce.
Physical and Mental Demands:
• Must be able to deal with stress associated with a fast paced work environment, including handling multiple tasks on a daily basis.
• Must be able to make judgment decisions and handle daily, routine responsibilities.
• Must be able to adapt to changing work situations and grasp and apply new ideas.
• Must be able to communicate with various personalities at all levels of management and staff.
• Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule that will frequently require long hours and periodically weekend work.
Working Conditions:
• Desk type position which requires a combination of sedentary and standing activities.
• Daily use of personal computer and associated software systems.
Compensation: Salary $90,000 - $150,000/ year
The compensation salary for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors.
