OnTrac is hiring a Sr Manager of Negotiations and Recruiting!

The Senior Manager of Last Mile Carrier Negotiations and Recruiting will oversee the strategic recruitment, negotiation, and management of last-mile carriers and service providers. This position will play a key role in shaping the company's delivery network by sourcing and negotiating contracts with third-party carriers, while also leading a team responsible for recruiting new partners and maintaining long-term relationships. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the last-mile logistics industry, strong negotiation expertise, and a proven track record in carrier acquisition and partnership management.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Last-Mile Carrier Sourcing and Negotiation:
    • Design and implement a strategic recruitment acquisition pipeline tailored to the organization’s carrier needs.
    • Lead the identification, selection, and negotiation of contracts with last-mile carriers (local, regional, and national delivery providers) to ensure cost-effective, reliable, and scalable delivery solutions.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to define carrier requirements based on delivery needs, service levels, and geographical coverage.
    • Drive negotiation efforts to achieve favorable terms, ensuring profitability and service excellence while maintaining flexibility to adapt to changing business needs.
    • Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key carrier partners, ensuring alignment with business goals and performance expectations.
  2. Recruitment and Onboarding of Last-Mile Carriers:
    • Lead the recruitment process for last-mile carriers, ensuring that potential partners meet service quality standards, compliance regulations, and cost-efficiency objectives.
    • Build and manage a pipeline of potential carriers, continuously seeking opportunities to expand and optimize the carrier network.
    • Conduct thorough assessments of new carriers’ operational capabilities, technology infrastructure, and ability to meet performance metrics.
    • Oversee the onboarding process for new carriers, ensuring smooth integration into the company’s delivery ecosystem.
  3. Strategic Planning and Cost Management:
    • Develop and execute strategies to optimize negotiations while reducing contractor costs to company expectations and improving service efficiency.
    • Collaborate with leadership, stakeholders and direct reports to assess carrier capabilities, ensuring alignment with capacity and demand fluctuations.
    • Negotiate pricing structures with carriers to optimize cost-effectiveness across the network.
    • Work closely with internal teams (operations, compliance, finance, and marketing) to ensure seamless coordination of timely delivery activities and qualification issue resolution.
  4. Team Leadership and Development:
    • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of professionals focused on carrier recruitment and negotiations, providing direction, coaching, and performance management.
    • Develop and implement training programs for the team, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to execute negotiations and recruit top-tier carriers effectively.
    • Foster a collaborative and high-performance team culture focused on results, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  5. Process Development:
    • Build and optimize a recruiting pipeline, incorporating metrics and analytics to measure lead movement, conversion rates, and overall effectiveness of the team.
    • Develop and implement innovative marketing strategies that align with business goals and enhance customer engagement.
    • Conduct market research to understand target audience preferences, industry trends, and competitive landscape.
    • Utilize data analytics to assess the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and adjust strategies based on insights and ROI.
    • Present regular updates to senior leadership, highlighting progress, challenges, and key opportunities for improvement.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Human Resources, Business Administration or comparable.
  • 7+ years of experience in last-mile logistics, carrier management, or supply chain operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership role overseeing carrier negotiations and recruitment.
  • Proven experience in Talent Acquisition or Sales Management.
  • Strong background in negotiating with third-party carriers, vendors, or service providers in the logistics and transportation industry.
  • Proven experience in managing complex carrier networks and achieving measurable improvements in delivery performance and cost savings.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations, compliance standards, and transportation management systems (TMS).

Skills and Competencies:

  • Experience with branding and recruitment marketing strategies.
  • Above average skill in Microsoft Windows applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Expert negotiation and contract management skills, with the ability to balance cost, quality, and service requirements.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, including experience managing cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and make data-driven decisions to optimize operations and carrier performance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a strategic mindset, with a focus on long-term growth and innovation.
  • Experience with logistics software, TMS, or other carrier performance monitoring tools.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
