Job Title: Associate Attorney
Job Overview: A well-established law firm is currently seeking an Associate Attorney to join its Post-Conviction Relief (PCR) team. This role primarily focuses on post-conviction relief matters, including motions to vacate, expungements, and early termination of probation. The ideal candidate will have experience or an interest in immigration law, as cases may involve immigration-related issues stemming from criminal convictions. This position offers an opportunity to work with a diverse and collaborative team on a variety of legal matters.
Duties:
- Provide legal counsel on post-conviction relief matters, including motions to vacate, expungements, and early termination of probation.
- Manage a caseload of PCR cases, with potential immigration law implications.
- Represent clients at hearings and provide strategic advice post-hearing.
- Handle criminal cases, such as arraignments, pre-trials, pleas, and sentencing, when necessary.
- Analyze the impact of criminal convictions on immigration status and offer legal advice on immigration-related consequences.
- Collaborate with attorneys, legal assistants, and staff to provide comprehensive legal services.
- Conduct legal research and draft motions and legal documents related to PCR cases.
Requirements:
- Must be licensed to practice law in California.
- Experience in criminal defense or immigration law is highly preferred.
- Experience handling criminal cases at the state and local level is a plus.
- Strong ability to manage a high caseload and work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
Education:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
Certifications:
- Active California State Bar membership.
Skills:
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Ability to effectively manage a diverse caseload.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and staff.
- Knowledge of both criminal law and immigration law is a plus.
