Project Overview:

Louisiana LNG is located approximately 11 miles southwest of Lake Charles, Louisiana. The project includes a mid-scale, mixed-refrigerant Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production and export facility on the west side of the Calcasieu River, comprising five identical process plants.

Job Summary:

The Welding Field Engineer will report to the Lead Welding Field Engineer. This individual is responsible for supporting the implementation and maintenance of the site welding program and direct hire work activities for both Non-Destruct Exam (NDE) and Pre/Post-Welding Heat Treat (PWHT).

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Support inspection activities using ITP and engineering drawings.
  2. Provide specialized welding & inspection support for construction to ensure compliance with all code and Bechtel procedures.
  3. Manage the issue of weld filler materials for welders to meet Bechtel and Code requirements.
  4. Plan NDE activities of welding and coordinate with construction and Bechtel LFWE.
  5. Monitor welding qualification and maintain welder qualifications and stamps.
  6. Work extended hours and night shifts as required.
  7. Demonstrate a commitment to safety and provide leadership for site safety, environmental, and health programs.
  8. Provide technical assistance regarding Pre/PWHT, Welding, and NDE.
  9. Support and maintain Project Field Welder Testing program.
  10. Ensure construction meets all code and site requirements.
  11. Implement the project ES&H program and quality control program.
  12. Support maintenance of calibrations for Pre/PWHT equipment.
  13. Perform inspections and documentation of all welding, NDE, and Pre/PWHT activities.
  14. Prepare material requisitions and maintain inventory for Pre/PWHT equipment and materials.
  15. Coordinate work activities and training of direct hire Pre/PWHT personnel.
  16. Support crafts in meeting quality requirements to maintain cost and schedule.
  17. Verify materials, workmanship, and specification/code requirements.
  18. Interface with the lead welding engineer for direction of work tasks.
  19. Perform oversight of subcontractor welding & NDE work and prepare daily reports.
  20. Troubleshoot engineering design issues as requested.
  21. Coach lower-level engineers within the welding discipline.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • NDE Certs including PT, MT, and LT (Vac Box).
  • Knowledge of AWS, API, NFPA, AWWA, ASTM and ASNT codes, specifications, and standards.
  • Must be certifiable by written examination to Bechtel's nondestructive examination requirements as NDE Level II Visual Examination.
  • Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and/or certifications in SMAW / GTAW / GMAW / FCAW.
  • Advanced knowledge of Piping Design Drawings / Specifications and TEAMWorks / WITS.
  • Intermediate understanding of Preheat/Post weld heat treatment.
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate team members effectively.
  • Strong technical background in LNG welding applications and methods.
  • Experience on an LNG construction site along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel's Welding Program and documentation requirements.
  • Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs).

Additional Information: Work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including but not limited to: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, scaffolding, and working in confined spaces. Must have the ability to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
