Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose: Under the general supervision of the Manager, Specialty Clinics, supports and contributes to the clinic’s mission statement by performing a variety of medical/dental assistant and clerical duties.

Essential Functions

  1. Perform chairside duties to include four-handed dentistry and Prosthetic and/or Orthodontic procedures.
  2. Perform additional functions in support of patient diagnosis and treatment of Orofacial disorders/oral medicine.
  3. Interact with patients by telephone or in person to communicate the clinic’s policies/procedures as they relate to the treatment.
  4. Educate patients on vital signs according to established procedures.
  5. Coordinate patient flow and clinical activities; assist doctors in all phases of patient management.
  6. Send information packets to new patients.
  7. Maintain daily activity log for Orofacial Disorders as related to telephone inquiries and referrals, clinical supplies, and laboratory procedures.
  8. Complete tray set-ups according to established procedures.
  9. Clean, sanitize and maintain treatment rooms, laboratory, and supply station.
  10. Maintain clinic supplies.
  11. Ensure the clinic and laboratory areas are prepared and/or closed daily according to established procedures.
  12. Provide laboratory support as necessary.
  13. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Manager, Specialty Clinics.
  14. Communicate and coordinate with outside offices for transferring of Clinical information and documents in the form of verbal, physical, and electronic media.
  15. Triage and schedule orofacial pain patients, and adjust schedule as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  1. Office methods and procedures.
  2. Dental/medical terminology.
  3. Sterilization and infection control techniques.

Experience:

  1. Minimum of two years of experience working with patients in a medical/dental setting.

Education/Licenses:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Current RDA license.
  3. Current CPR certification.

Working Conditions:

  1. Position is full-time, five (5) days per week, seven and one-half (7.5) hours per day.
  2. Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens may reasonably be anticipated. Personal protective equipment will be provided to reduce or eliminate exposure to routine or limited infectious agents.

Ability to:

  1. Operate various office machines to include computer, copy and fax machine.
  2. Communicate effectively with faculty, students, staff, patients and public.
  3. Apply patient management and time management skills.
  4. Project a professional image and maintain professional composure and demeanor.
  5. Maintain confidentiality of information.

Other:

  1. Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  2. Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  3. Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative but not definitive of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  1. Position requires alternative sitting and standing throughout the working hours; occasional reaching and bending.
  2. Frequent handling of instruments requires incumbent to possess sufficient motor function to execute movements essential to providing oral health care to patients.
  3. Frequent telephone and computer use including keyboard and mouse.

Hiring Range

Hiring Range 31.45 per hour
