Director of Maintenance and Housekeeping

Responsibilities of the Director of Maintenance and Housekeeping:

  1. Maintains preventive maintenance schedules using an electronic facility management system.
  2. Repairs physical structures, maintains utility systems of building, and maintains grounds. Supervises support staff and contractors, as applicable. Installs, services, and repairs mechanical equipment.
  3. Possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to diagnose and repair the above systems.
  4. Provides leadership and guidance to the housekeeping staff through ongoing supervision, staffing support, and education.
  5. Ability to accept and exhibit the responsibility to make sound management decisions.
  6. Ability to work flexible hours and report to work within 20 minutes for urgent situations.
  7. Maintain work area free of hazardous conditions, i.e., spills, excessive supplies, equipment, etc.
  8. Maintain work and storage areas in a clean, neat, sanitary, and safe condition.

Requirements of the Director of Maintenance and Housekeeping:

  1. High school diploma or GED required or equivalent related work experience.
  2. Willingness to perform a variety of simple repetitive tasks, many of which will involve unpleasant conditions.
  3. Practical knowledge of day-to-day cleaning in a long-term care facility.
  4. Highest level of professionalism with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  5. Ability to work with minimal supervision, take initiative, and make independent decisions.
  6. Ability to deal with new tasks without the benefit of written procedures.
  7. Approachable, flexible, and adaptable to change.
  8. Effective verbal and written English communication skills.
  9. Function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with staff and vendors.
