Reports to: Deputy Executive DirectorLocation: Washington, DCStatus: Full-time; ExemptCompensation: $150,000-170,000Position SummaryWe’re looking for a Senior Director of Federal Affairs to lead and manage The Hub Project’s outreach to Capitol Hill and work closely in concert with our Deputy Executive Director. This role is a part of The Hub’s leadership team and helps to drive our national legislative priorities, harness the impact of our relationships and coalitional involvement, and develop strategies on how to best push a progressive policy agenda in collaboration with partners.Working within the External Affairs team, you’ll be responsible for identifying, developing, and managing key strategic relationships with members of Congress, in addition to working with teams across The Hub to ensure that a fully engaged federal affairs perspective is included in their overall strategic outlook. You’ll also work with our various issue campaigns to make sure our allies are up-to-date on our efforts and informed about our programs.Additionally, you’ll help lead the partnership efforts, working closely with our Partnerships Managers to coordinate our efforts with elected officials and key partners across the progressive space.This is a senior position that plays an integral leadership role at The Hub Project. We need someone with an understanding of how Congress works, a knack for outreach and working with partners, the ability to build trust quickly, and a passion for creative problem-solving.As Senior Director of Federal and External Affairs, you’ll:Develop and execute a comprehensive plan for outreach to members of Congress, focusing on advancing The Hub Project's key initiatives. Oversee and manage a team of consultants responsible for Hill outreach on behalf of The Hub Project, ensuring alignment with strategic goals. Maintain strong relationships with key allies, keeping them informed and engaged on ongoing campaigns, programs, and initiatives. Collaborate across The Hub Project to design the federal strategy and ensure its effective execution, aligning with organizational priorities. Oversee the partnerships manager within campaign teams, ensuring smooth coordination and alignment with federal affairs goals. Work closely with The Hub Project staff across various departments (digital, communications, research, campaigns) to provide timely support and responses to requests from allies. Take additional responsibilities as needed to support The Hub Project’s goals and strategic initiatives.About you:Experienced Leader. You have a proven track record of managing teams, executing complex projects, providing direct feedback, and creating professional growth opportunities for staff.Extensive Federal Affairs Experience. With a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, you’ve worked across at least three Congresses in various roles, or have held a similar federal affairs position in another organization. Relationship Building Expert. You excel in developing and managing relationships with elected officials, senior Congressional staff, and key leaders in the progressive space.Relationship Building ExpertExceptional Communicator. You possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to Congress members, senior leaders, and other high-level stakeholders. Skilled Muilitasker. You thrive under pressure, adept at juggling multiple tasks, prioritizing competing demands, and meeting tight deadlines in dynamic environments. Detail-Orientated and Organized. You have a keen eye for detail and are highly organized, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all aspects of your work. Creative Problem-Solver. You enjoy the intricacies of Congressional procedure and are skilled at navigating complex political landscapes to find innovative solutions. Miss-Driven. Employees are able to enroll in 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions. Employees are also eligible for pre-tax transportation benefits. Employees will receive 120 hours of vacation time, 80 hours of health leave, up to 2 days of casual leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave annually. Employees will also receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
