This requires a blend of engineering principles, management practices, and a holistic approach to problem solving to ensure that all system components work together effectively and meet project requirements. The focus of this role includes the optimization of systems, processes, and our engineering organization by integrating people, technology, materials, information, and energy. The goal of this role is to improve the safety, quality, and efficiency of both our products and our engineering operations at X-energy. The initial project assignments for this role will focus on System Lifecycle Processes and Model Based Systems Engineering.Job Profile Tasks/ResponsibilitiesLead the execution the core tasks and responsibilities listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document, without close supervision and complete latitude for independent judgement.Provide feedback and guidance to more junior team members with the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document.In collaboration with engineering leadership, set technical direction at the enterprise level through developing and owning technology or discipline specific roadmaps, best practices, and/or design criteria.Work across engineering disciplines and the business to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of systems, processes, and the organization.Apply systems thinking and take a holistic approach to solve problems, analyze and design systems, considering the interdependencies and interactions between various components.Optimize processes and systems to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, effectively use resources (time, money, materials, and energy), and improve productivity using methodologies like six-sigma and lean.Facilitate the collection, analysis, and modeling of data to make informed, data-driven decisions about system design and process improvements.Support engineering projects and programs throughout the systems engineering lifecycle to lead and manage efforts surrounding:Stakeholder and Operational analysisRequirement identification, decomposition, and managementFunctional decomposition and modelingLogical system architecture development and modelingPhysical product definition, interface management, and change controlDesign integration and testingSystem verification and validationConcept of operations development and modelingLead the identification and monitoring of technical risks and the development of risk mitigation strategies.Support value engineering activities including cost analyses, economic feasibility assessments, and cost reduction opportunity identification.Write and review engineering documentation, reports, and communicate technical details and project progress to technical and non-technical stakeholders.Develop and implement systems engineering processes, and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools integrated into X-energy’s quality management framework.Create documentation for processes and standard operating procedures; and collaborate with the training team to train employees on new processes and systems to ensure smooth implementation.Perform operations management, production planning, and supply chain optimization activities to ensure efficient process flow and use of resources.Perform project management functions such as planning, scheduling and risk management.Perform work in accordance with X-energy quality assurance procedures to ensure engineering products meet required standards.Always maintain professional demeanor and behavior in all forms of communication.Perform other duties as assigned by manager.Job Profile Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in industrial and systems engineering, or other engineering related discipline from an ABET accredited university required.Typically, twenty years of experience in an engineering role.A master’s degree in engineering or related field (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience) may be in lieu of two years of experience.A Ph.D. in engineering or related field (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience) may be in lieu of three years of experience.Previous experience at X-energy exceeding performance standards may be in lieu of years of experience.Experience with systems engineering software tools.Experience and/or knowledge in a minimum of one of the following areas:System Lifecycle Processes (ISO 15288)Operational & Stakeholder AnalysisRequirements ManagementSystem Design & Interface ManagementDesign Integration & TestingVerification & ValidationModel-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Tools and Methods & Product Lifecycle Management Systemse.g. Teamcenter PLM, Cameo, Capella, Genesys, SysML, and DOORSLocation: 530 Gaither Road, Rockville, MDTravel Expectations: 10% (as needed for project assignment)Hours: Standard office hours are 8:00am ET to 5:00pm ET, Monday -FridayCompensationAs required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.).
