This is a contract job opportunity with potential for permanent placement.

Location: Portland, OR

Schedule: Mon-Fri, 7am-7am (hours will vary depending on location)

This is a float job requiring a clean driving record, with all locations within 25 miles of each other.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, and centrifuging specimens.
  2. Recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
  3. Collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures.
  4. Properly explaining the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal).
  5. Demonstrating techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  6. Understanding all of the physicians' orders.
  7. Matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  8. Labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order.
  9. Checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
  10. Packaging specimens for transport and storing specimen samples according to required temperature.
  11. Placing samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately labeling, and following procedures outlined by specific protocols for transport.
  12. Understanding and complying with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  13. Attending annual department trainings.
  14. Answering telephone calls and reading laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states.
  2. Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  3. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
