What You'll Do

As a Service & Support Engineer at Solex, you will work as part of our technical team to support the successful design, implementation and operation of Solex's heat exchange technology throughout its life cycle. You will be involved in projects in all corners of the globe and in applications ranging from the production of sugar to the development of next-generation solar-thermal electricity generation. You will be supported by an experienced and diverse team, have opportunities to mentor and develop junior staff and be provided with pathways to develop your career and technical expertise.

The Service & Support Engineer is required to perform a range of duties within the Customer Solutions and Service team. Most of your time will be dedicated to providing technical assistance to our customers while also improving the depth and quality of our internal engineering know how.

Some specific core tasks include:
  • Conduct field commissioning activities and troubleshoot heat exchange equipment and peripherals.
  • Collect, analyze and interpret field process stream data, writing site visit reports with process engineering recommendations.
  • Inspect overall equipment, peripherals and piping; assist customers in resolving mechanical, electrical or automation disciplines.
  • Perform field assessments and evaluations based on on-site data collection.
  • Review drawings, reports and specifications, recommending spare parts for projects and service and support.
  • Supervise on-site maintenance and retrofit activities.
  • Assist Project and Process Engineering with field knowledge and expertise.
  • Review Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Control Narratives, equipment IOM, equipment datasheets and heat transfer calculations.
  • Set up and conduct pilot tests of Solex heat exchangers with different applications as required.

What You Bring

This role requires the following qualifications and skills:

  • Engineering degree in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience with a P.Eng. license in Canada.
  • 10+ years of Engineering experience including a solid fieldwork background.
  • Advanced knowledge of Process Engineering and commissioning activities including thermodynamics, psychometrics, refrigeration cycles and heat transfer.
  • Willingness to act as the customer interface supporting the sales group and the Project/Process Engineering departments.
  • Practical engineering experience in an owner/operator, equipment manufacturer or EPC environment is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Home office and Solex office based (Canada).
  • Willingness to travel worldwide up to 50% of the working time.
  • Travel on weekends and overtime expected occasionally.
  • Candidate must possess a valid passport with no restrictions on entry into the U.S., Europe and other countries.
