An industry leading Connecticut-based manufacturer of specialized industrial products with multiple locations domestically and internationally is currently seeking a Senior Director of Operations to serve as a member of the senior leadership team, guiding the operational performance of the firm.
Job Summary for the Senior Director of Operations – Specialty Manufacturing
The primary function of this position is to lead all functions of Operations with a focus on creating an environment that fosters quality excellence across all divisions. This includes the core areas of manufacturing, production and assembly, supply chain management, logistics (shipping & receiving), and quality. Qualified candidates will have extensive experience in a similar quality manufacturing-based environment.
Essential Functions of the Senior Director of Operations – Specialty Manufacturing
Provide day-to-day leadership and management for the operational team that mirrors the adopted mission and core values of the company to meet the goals of the operational plan.
Responsible for production and quality domestically at HQ in Connecticut, in the European plant, future location(s), and third-party manufacturing.
Oversees European operation, holding bi-weekly online meetings and site visits a few times per year. Ensures that ECN’s, production and quality standards are consistent at all production facilities.
Assists executive staff members in the development and formulation of long and short-range planning, policies, programs and objectives.
Develops the manufacturing and sourcing plans and establishes procedures for maintaining high standards of operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards.
Optimizes performance, employee levels and material costs to meet annual budgetary plan.
Formulates and recommends manufacturing, purchasing and shipping policies that drive profitability and operational excellence.
Manages logistics to meet the needs of the organization, maintaining high shipping standards for up to 300+ packages per day.
Directs, monitors and manages department managers to accomplish goals of the operating plan consistent with established manufacturing and safety procedures.
Oversees hiring, training, development and evaluation of operational staff, taking corrective action as necessary.
Initiates and coordinates major projects (e.g., plant layout changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs, etc.) as necessary to drive operational excellence.
Manages inventory to maintain accuracy and reduce inventory turns while maintaining on-time delivery, as aligned with S&OP and E&O reviews.
Identifies and mitigates risks associated with supply chain, quality, personnel and profitability.
Maximizes efficient use of ERP system and related processes, with a focus on continuous improvement.
Provides strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues.
Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned and required.

Proven track record of serving as a leader of operations in a specialty manufacturing environment.

Training and Experience Requirements for the Senior Director of Operations
BA/BS in industrial or mechanical engineering, manufacturing required.
7+ years of experience in manufacturing management, preferably in a process-oriented operations and/or related industry. A minimum of 5 years of experience managing a significant segment of a large manufacturer or the entire operation of a smaller manufacturer.
10+ years of experience in a role with broad responsibilities that included planning, production, quality control, lean initiatives, supply chain and material management.
Experience working with manufacturing-based technology, processes and principles.
Knowledge of Epicor Kinetic ERP would be helpful.
Ability to manage multiple projects and multi-task.
Commitment to innovation and problem-solving, “roll up the sleeve” approach.
Manufacturing experience, ideally in the industrial consumer goods sector.
Trained in general safety (OSHA).
6 Sigma or Lean certification preferred.
Familiarity with manufacturing in an ISO 9001 environment.
Experience working in an entrepreneurial/family-oriented environment is a plus.
