Community Outreach Ambassador

Greening Youth Foundation, Chicago, Illinois, United States, 60290

The selected candidate would have an opportunity to work alongside uniformed National Park Service (NPS) Interpretation and Education staff in support of a new and developing historic site. The primary emphasis of the internship is to support the NPS's ongoing efforts to engage with the community that calls Pullman National Monument home and connect surrounding communities to their park. The intern will identify, conduct, and complement ongoing community outreach efforts. Given Pullman's location in an underserved area, developing relationships with local schools, colleges, and community groups will be a focus and priority. The intern will strengthen existing connections within the community. Along with outreach activities, the intern will also have opportunities to shadow park staff and provide information and orientation at our Visitor Center, and possibly at our partners' facilities. The intern will be responsible for learning park themes, utilizing professional and exceptional customer service skills, and learning and using interpretive best practices for public communication and programs. The intern will work with park staff to identify potential audiences and develop an outreach strategy for the summer team to follow. The intern will support community engagement and outreach with Pullman National Monument boundary residents, adjacent communities in south Chicago, and the broader Chicago metropolitan area. The intern would help identify and engage with potential outreach audiences and help deploy "Pullman Pop-up Park" outreach. Some special events may be at NPS monument partner facilities such as the National A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum, Historic Pullman Foundation, and Pullman State Historic Site. The intern would help develop a social media outreach campaign.
