Manufacturing Engineer, Automation & Assembly

As a Manufacturing Engineer- Plastics at Tesla, you will design, implement, and improve Plastics molding automation and assembly processes. You will perform Design for Manufacturing and Assembly, define the Automation and assembly line Layout, assembly processes, and Automated equipment. You will work with a highly motivated cross-functional team and deliver turnkey solutions to enable vehicle production at rate.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with product engineering on DFM reviews, building quality into the product
  • Design assembly processes and equipment for ease of operation and safety using PFMEA
  • Collaborate with Factory Layout and Material Flow team to design for optimal layout
  • Collaborating with Controls engineering to ensure equipment is built to Tesla standards
  • 20% Travel Requirement for Domestic and International travel for Equipment FATs
  • On-site Commissioning of Equipment using factory and site acceptance testing
  • Make/buy/ROI analyses as required and validating external suppliers using PPAP
  • Planning sufficient capacity to meet business targets for production output
Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3-5+ years of working experience defining assembly processes and equipment design
  • 2+ years of Equipment Troubleshooting experience
  • 3D Modeling (CATIA/ SOLIDWORKS) to design fixtures, Assemblies clash studies
  • AutoCAD 2D experience to design 2D line Layouts in Factory grids
  • Minitab experience to perform Statistical Process Control and Quality studies
  • Exceptional project management and leadership skills
  • Should cost modeling and performing Make v Buys
  • Comfortable in leading diverse multi-functional team
  • Proficient in basic software (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Minitab, JMP, etc.)
