This includes receiving the bills, applying coding, logging data, submitting bills for payment timely, troubleshooting and addressing billing discrepancies, research, and vendor communications. The higher level includes conducting spend analysis and trending, preparing reports, and handling encumbrances. This work requires knowledge and coordination of multiple processes and procedures by applying established policies, rules, and regulations. There is a large volume of work which requires close attention to detail and accuracy is paramount. The position works closely with other administrative staff to ensure all utility bills are processed, data is tracked and accurate, reporting is completed and timely, and we strive for zero late fees or shut-off notices. The work is fast-paced and challenging, and we provide full training and support to ensure success. This position may also cross-train with other administrative staff and perform other duties as assigned. Substitutions: Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience. Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month). Accounting Technician 2 One year of entry technical level accounting or clerical bookkeeping experience. Substitutions: Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience. Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting. Accounting Technician 3 Two years of technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience, of which at least one year was at the full-proficiency level. Substitutions: Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level. Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for up to one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting. Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 9 semester/12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting. An associate's degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting. Additional Required Information FLEXIBLY STAFFED This position is flexibly staffed. It may be filled at the Accounting Technician 1, 2 or 3 level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at a lower level, promotion to the higher level will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
