The Accounting Manager is responsible for oversight of the organization's accounting processes and functions, including revenue and expense management, month and year-end journal entries, general ledger reconciliation, preparation of monthly draft financial statements and annual audit lead. Functions as the lead support and backup person for the Senior Director of Finance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Ensure accuracy and efficiency of organizational accounting operations.
  • Review general ledger accounts for accuracy of accounts, projects, and department postings.
  • Oversee and generate monthly and year-end journal entries and reconciliations including pledge receivables and bank reconciliations.
  • Analyze balance sheet accounts monthly for accuracy in preparation for draft financial statements.
  • Analyze departmental budgets versus actual transactions; investigate and explain variances.
  • Analyze project budgets versus actual transactions; investigate and explain variances.
  • Ensure departmental and project income statements are available for review by non-finance staff.
  • Ensure accounting policies, procedures, and efficiencies for collection of revenues, club program fees, contributions, and receivables are being followed.
  • Ensure accounting policies, procedures, and efficiencies for expenses, purchasing and payables are being followed.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of revenue, contributions and grant receipt processing and related deposits.
  • Collaborate with Advancement team to confirm contribution postings, adjustments, and tracking are in line with finance records. Reconcile general ledger contribution accounts with donor database quarterly.
  • Responsible for payroll finance accounting and compliance. Ensure all remittances are performed timely.
  • Ensure bank and investment account balances are updated daily for wires, transfer, large deposits, etc.
  • Complete assigned special projects and research in an accurate and timely manner.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to recommend and implement new policies and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and communicate effectively with management.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and an ability to work cooperatively in a collaborative work environment. Must be detail-oriented and extremely organized with the ability to prioritize workload.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Non-profit accounting experience and knowledge of FASB accounting principles strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated project management and supervisory skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel preferred.
  • Experience working with QuickBooks, Adobe, Sage Intacct software preferred.
