The College of Science seeks an academic advising professional who will contribute to exemplary advising services for Computational Science undergraduate students at the Purdue West Lafayette and Indianapolis location. College of Science advising is predicated on the belief that individualized relationships set the stage for student success and high advisor impact and satisfaction. As an Academic Advisor you will promote an inclusive environment that challenges and supports students by providing meaningful opportunities for student learning, development, and integration of curricular and co-curricular experiences. Advisors empower students to be active, responsible learners while guiding students to make well-informed decisions that lead to achieving students' educational, career, and life goals.

In the role of a Academic Advisor, you will:
  • Create an open and respectful environment in where students of diverse backgrounds and interests feel comfortable exploring and defining their goals and curricular pathways
  • Empower students to be active, responsible learners and assist them in making well-informed decisions
  • Guide students in course selection and the process of registering for courses
  • Identify campus activities and program opportunities related to students' major
  • Maintain a consistent pattern of contact and communication with assigned students
  • Use data to provide timely outreach to students on their academic progress and conduct audits on students' degree progress
  • Assess when a student's situation requires referral to campus resources
  • Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of student records
  • Teach students about the university's structure, systems, policies, and practices

This position will support the Purdue University -Indianapolis campus and a second position to support the West Lafayette campus.

This position will pay $46,000 annually.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience Needed:
  • Master's degree in higher education or related field
  • One (1) year of student advising, recruitment, or other student-facing experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to:
    • Collaborate with faculty, staff, current and prospective students, and parents, and families
    • Problem solve and utilize campus resources for individuals and groups
    • Navigate a changing environment
