Location(s):

Assigned to support CEDA WIC Clinics in city north region (zip codes: Albany Park (60625), Howard (60626) and Irving Park (60641)).

This position will be based at Howard. All staff occasionally float within their region to provide onsite coverage. Occasional Saturdays required; minimum 1x per quarter.

Schedule:

8:00a - 4:30p; Monday - Friday; some Saturdays required when Saturday clinics are open in region; minimum 1x per quarter.

Purpose:

The WIC Nutritionist is responsible for nutrition and breastfeeding assessment and counseling of WIC clients; ensures that the assigned site operates efficiently and effectively, and that all activities are in compliance with DHS and agency policy.

Responsibilities: Responsible for all WIC clinic functions and ensures all DHS and CEDA WIC policies and procedures are followed. Coordinates with the WIC Advocate to complete all stages of the client certification process including screening, assessment, counseling, documentation and follow up. Communicates necessary site, staff and client issues to Supervisor. Provides nutrition counseling, and breastfeeding counseling when applicable, to all eligible participants at certification and individual follow up visits. Provides appropriate counseling and follow up to high risk/high priority clients as determined by WIC assessment and adheres to program standards of practice. Maintains legible and complete client IWIC records, documenting all client educational contacts and pertinent information according to agency standards. Schedules, coordinates and conducts group and individual nutrition education sessions. Maintains integrity of EBT card inventory, security, issuance and reconciliation. Accurately completes appropriate procedures to provide medically prescribed formulas. Obtains client anthropometric measurements as necessary, utilizing length/height boards, scales, head circumference tapes and non-invasive hemoglobin monitors. Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Dietetics/Food and Nutrition or equivalent (Home Economist). Must meet Illinois Department of Human Services educational requirements for a Nutritionist. Experience:

At least 1 year of related experience is a plus, especially in a healthcare, nonprofit, or community-based setting. Experience with various socioeconomic populations is preferred. Training:

Must complete breastfeeding education training within the first year of employment; upon completion, you will earn the title of Breastfeeding Support Counselor. Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry a minimum of 20 lbs. Technical Skills:

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, SharePoint, and Internet. Experience with client management systems is a plus.
