Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Four (4) years of full-time fundraising, sales or related experience in a higher education institution, a large non-profit, or complex healthcare system. Proven record of successfully cultivating and soliciting individual donors or institutions for major gifts.
Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). One (1) additional year of full-time fundraising, sales or related experience in a higher education institution, a large non-profit, or complex healthcare system. Fundraising campaign experience. Contact management software experience. One (1) year of management experience.
Brief Description of Duties:The Director of Development will lead fundraising efforts for the Leadership Giving team. Collaborating closely with the Assistant Vice President for Central Teams, they will design a comprehensive fundraising plan and strategy for selected areas. Responsibilities include meeting with key prospects and individual donors, cultivating relationships, soliciting gifts, and managing all fundraising activities for assigned portfolios. They must meet clearly defined annual metrics and have experience managing multiple priorities and donor/client relationships.
Special Notes:The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

- Manage the Leadership Giving team, providing strong leadership to foster growth, development and collaboration. Implement team wide strategies, develop best practices, and integrate new technologies to ensure the success of the individuals as well as the team. Execute a metrics-driven program to secure new and increased donors, and build a pipeline of future major gift prospects and prepare future major gift officers.
- Develop and Implementa comprehensive fundraising portfolio. Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects capable of major ($100,000+) gifts. Achieve specific and measurable goals for contacts, portfolio management, proposals presented, and dollars raised.
- Serve as a memberof the Stony Brook Advancement team, coordinating efforts with University Advancement, participating in various tasks and functions, and communicating clearly with colleagues about goals, progress, and activities.
- Engage volunteers to assist in donor cultivation and solicitation.
- Manage projects as assigned.
- Attend relevant alumni, school, and university events to advance prospect or donor relationships.
- Other duties as assigned.
