Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our finance team in the fast-paced hospitality industry. This critical role provides financial leadership, ensures compliance with established financial regulations, and supports key decision-making processes to drive long-term success.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment, possess extensive knowledge of financial practices in the hotel sector, and demonstrate strong analytical abilities to support financial planning and performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
- Analyze variances between actual and budgeted performance and provide detailed insights for leadership.
- Ensure adherence to GAAP and company policies in all financial reporting processes.
2. Budgeting and Forecasting
- Assist in the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with hotel operations and business objectives.
- Develop periodic financial forecasts and collaborate with departmental leaders to review and adjust expense plans.
3. Compliance and Internal Controls
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations and industry requirements.
- Maintain and improve internal controls to safeguard assets and minimize risk.
- Support audits by preparing necessary documentation and coordinating with external auditors.
4. Team Collaboration and Leadership
- Partner closely with operational departments to ensure accurate tracking of revenues, expenses, and operational costs.
- Train and mentor junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of financial accuracy and professional growth.
- Act as a key liaison between the hotels management team and the finance department.
5. Systems and Process Management
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial software systems, ensuring efficiency and consistency.
- Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes for optimized performance.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field required; CPA or MBA is a plus.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive financial management experience in the hospitality industry.
- Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting, and compliance processes in hotel operations.
Skills and Competencies:
- Expertise in financial software, including property management and accounting systems (e.g., Opera, SAP, or similar).
- Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to analyze and interpret complex financial data.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and levels.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
- Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to fostering collaboration and accountability.
