HR Counselor (HR Specialist V)
TWC is looking for an experienced Human Resources generalist to serve as an agency HR Counselor. This is a job that pulls from all areas of Human Resources. You might be called on to counsel an employee during a personal crisis, mediate a dispute between a manager and co-worker, or assist in an employee investigation. The position reports to the Director of Human Resources but works with management from across the agency.

TWC connects people with careers all over the state. While we are headquartered on the north lawn of the Texas State Capitol in Austin, at 101 E. 15th Street, we have offices statewide. This position is an in-office position that will allow for occasional teleworking.
What You’ll Do:
The HR counseling program is available to all levels of TWC employees seeking impartial assistance with human resources issues or job-related problems. Employees and management are encouraged to consult with the HR counselor as a means of solving problems before they reach the complaint or grievance level. No two days are alike.

- The salary is $6,197.00 a month ($74,369 a year).

What You’ll Learn:
You’ll train in this job with an experienced TWC counselor who can show you the ropes and help you learn the specifics of the position. TWC also has a highly skilled Training and Development Department that offers a wide variety of courses to help our employees grow. And members of the HR team earn opportunities to train for additional HR generalist and specialty certifications from HRCI and/or SHRM.
What You Need to Get Hired:
- Experience in a variety of human resources employee relations.
- Familiarity with federal and state regulations governing personnel activities.
- Possession of good oral and written communication.
- Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and set priorities.
- Ability to explain policies and procedures to staff.
- History of maintaining confidentiality and sensitive information.
- History of mindful escalation of issues to your supervisor.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
Other Things We’ll be Looking For:
- Certification in Human Resources, either by HRCI or SHRM.
- Experience as an HR Counselor.
- Experience writing and interpreting policy.
- Training in dispute-resolution.
You Qualify With:
- Four years of full-time experience in positions that provided a thorough knowledge of principles of human resources management, office management policies, procedures, and practices, and of agency functions and organizational structures.
- Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
