Boston, MassachusettsHybridFull Time$160k - $200kOur client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of cutting-edge robotics and mechatronic systems. This position plays a key role in driving innovation and ensuring the mechanical integrity and performance of their robotic products. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of mechatronic principles, strong technical expertise, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex systems.Key Responsibilities:Lead the mechanical design and development of advanced robotics and mechatronics systems, including actuators, sensors, and structural components. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, software, and systems engineers, to integrate mechanical subsystems into cohesive robotics platforms. Oversee the creation of detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and specifications using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, or Creo). Perform advanced simulations and analyses, such as FEA for stress, thermal, and dynamic load assessments, to ensure the robustness and reliability of designs. Develop and refine prototypes, conducting rigorous testing to validate performance against specifications. Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering technical growth and ensuring adherence to best practices. Drive design reviews, ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and manufacturability. Interface with manufacturing teams and suppliers to ensure smooth transitions from design to production. Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in robotics and mechatronics to maintain a competitive edge.Qualifications:Master’s or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field. 10+ years of experience in mechanical design and engineering, with a significant focus on robotics or mechatronics systems. Strong expertise in designing precision mechanical systems, actuators, and integrated mechatronic components. Proficiency in CAD software and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar). Demonstrated experience leading engineering projects from concept through production. Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, injection molding, and 3D printing. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment.Preferred Skills:Knowledge of embedded systems and control integration for mechatronic devices. Experience with sensor integration and feedback systems for robotics applications. Background in agile development methodologies and iterative design processes.
