The Junior Property Accountant will assist in managing the financial operations of a property portfolio. This includes handling the accounting and reporting functions for property transactions, ensuring accurate records, preparing financial statements, and assisting with budgets. This position will require strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a basic understanding of property accounting principles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process daily financial transactions related to properties (e.g., rent payments, vendor invoices, utilities, taxes).
- Reconcile property-related bank accounts and general ledgers.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for properties under management.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned properties.
- Assist with AP and accruals as needed.
- Prepare schedules for property income, expenses, and capital expenditures.
- Generate variance reports comparing actual to budgeted performance.
- Support in the preparation of property budgets and forecasts, ensuring that all transactions are in line with financial plans.
- Monitor budget performance and report variances to the senior accounting team.
- Help with the preparation of property tax filings and ensure tax payments are accurate and timely.
- Ensure compliance with local tax regulations and property laws.
- Support senior property accountants and property managers with various administrative tasks.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: Some experience in accounting or finance, preferably in the property or real estate industry. Internship experience is also valuable.
- Knowledge:
- Familiarity with property management software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, RealPage) is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP).
- Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills to work with internal and external stakeholders.
