This is a temporary unclassified position expected to last two years.

This position authorizes reimbursement approval on workers’ compensation cases for which the Special Compensation Fund (“SCF”) has agreed to reimburse a stakeholder pursuant to Minnesota Statutes §176.131 and §176.132 for benefits paid as a result of a second injury or in the form of supplementary benefits, and to authorize approval for reimbursement of medical treatments and services for claims submitted below a dollar limit of $5,000.00. The incumbent evaluates and appropriately reimburses claims from stakeholders based on the terms of acknowledged SCF liability and adequate documentation of reasonableness and necessity of expenditures by the stakeholders. This position also assesses short and long-term SCF liabilities, analyzes the language in settlement documents, pursues repayment of overpaid amounts to insurers, and denies inappropriate amounts claimed by stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

· Two years’ experience administering workers’ compensation indemnity and medical claims.

· Knowledge of Minnesota Workers' Compensation laws and rules, case law decisions, appropriate federal laws and agency policies and procedures.

· Knowledge of medical terminology, conditions, treatment methods, medications, treatment parameters, and CPT/ICD10 coding.

· Ability to interpret and understand rehabilitation and medical records, medical reports and medical provider statements.

· Strong mathematical skills to calculate benefit amounts due, using statutory and/or complex case law formulas.

· Strong organizational and decision-making skills and ability to work independently.

· Strong written and verbal communications skills to effectively explain SCF policies to stakeholders and interact in verbal and written formats with all customers.

· Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, including those who may not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or common experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Language skills other than English (such as Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen or ASL).

  • Six months professional claims experience managing or administering second injury and/or supplementary benefit claims.

  • Six months experience using DLI's Work Comp CAMPUS claims management system.

Additional Requirements

This position is designated for hybrid:

  • Hybrid for State of MN allows an employee to work a portion of the time remotely with a regular schedule of time at the designated office.
