For over fifty five years Richmond Montessori School (RMS) has remained dedicated to providing an authentic Montessori education in a student-centered environment and has remained true to the mission of its founders and the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori. RMS is a non-profit 501(c)(3) independent school dually-accredited by the American Montessori Society and the Virginia Association of Independent Schools. The school serves approximately 310 students ages 18 months to 14 years on two adjacent campuses, which incorporate eleven acres of beautiful green space, located in the west end of Richmond, Virginia.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Receptionist/Administrative Assistant provides support to the school community and manages the coverage of all reception and administrative duties for the front desk/school reception area. The Receptionist/Administrative Assistant is responsible for the smooth, calm, positive atmosphere of the south campus front office. In addition, the Receptionist/Administrative Assistant provides administrative support to the Head of School and her leadership team as required.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

  1. Front Desk & School Operations Support: Answer incoming calls; ensure coverage at the front desk on south campus during office hours; manage administrative duties of the front desk, maintain forms and binders at the front desk; manage deliveries and mail and supplies and equipment; arrange auxiliary parking when needed.
  2. Student Support: Greet, assist and direct families, students and staff; coordinate schedule of classroom observations for parents and guests; assist with carpool duties and responsibilities as assigned; provide administrative support to student life for visiting guests, conference arrangements, and professional development.
  3. Office & Administrative Duties: Order and manage the adequate inventory of general office supplies; update school calendars for shared areas; access database and data entry based on parent requests; maintain student files and master lists as requested.

REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent; 1-2 years administrative experience required. Requires proficient knowledge of and facility with the Apple & Google Suites, including Word, Excel, Google Drive/Google calendar. Knowledge of general office procedures and practices. Requires excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills. Requires excellent written communication skills that include editing and proofreading as well as an ability to write and speak diplomatically and with confidence when interacting with parents, Board members, staff, vendors, media and other constituents. Requires sound judgment, discretion and a high level of confidentiality. Requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to successfully juggle multiple demands. Ability to maintain calm when dealing with all types of situations. Certifications, Licenses, or Registrations: First Aid/CPR and MAT certifications required (school will sponsor).

POSITION CLASSIFICATION

Full-time, Monday through Friday. The position begins on August 1, 2024.
